FUN DAY

FUN DAY

Today was a fun day off.  It consisted of sleeping in late, followed by casual errands and dinner at home.

I was excited to wear my new necklace that reminds me of the “Two Broke Girls” pearl bauble that the blond one always wears, accompanied by matching dark pearl earrings.

The largest portion of the day was a never ending hunt for black lampshades which were needed for my upcoming “Master Bedroom Revamp.”  I now see that lampshades are one of those things that you see everywhere, until you actually are looking for them!

Doing the posts helps me to stay on track with my various projects and utilize my spare time more wisely!  It gives me a stronger desire to finish so I can share, whatever the project or idea may be!

It seemed that all the shades I’d found had cheap white lining on the inside, which stood out (in a bad way) against the black walls.

SIDEBAR:  Just a thought, but I really want to ask who came up with the idea of wearing pajamas out into the world?  There was a woman in one of the stores I was at, who, although carrying her Louis Vuitton bag, decided the world wanted to see her in her fuzzy blue pajamas…which were adorned with moons and stars. This is the middle of the day! I just don’t get it!

Finally, success was reached at Hobby Lobby where they only had 2 black shades! Of course I found fabulous pillows and  wall sconce as well! So the re-vamp is coming along and I can’t wait to finish and post the outcome!

In the meantime, there are more projects under way, so check back!

TOP TWELVE SHOTS OF THE YEAR 2013

image_preview (4)

The year zipped by quickly.  What happened to the good old days that yousee in movies in which people had time to sit around outside on the patio, drink tea and gossip?  I need time like that.

There were a lot of photos taken for the blog… probably thousands, but these are the ones I am choosing to highlight.

Michael Kors, Movado, Jessica Simpson shoes, David Yurman, Prada Glasses, animal print top, white blonde hair, over 40, Old Town Spring, Luxor Living and Style, fashion blogger, lifestyle blogger, Luxor Magazine, Texas Top Bloggers

If you click on each photo, it takes you to the original blog post to see more. I choose photos of people, since that is one of my passions.   If there is a photo of me, my husband took it, which is a miracle/fluke, but it’s included because he does help and when we are not rushing, it’s fun for us.

I try to use other people at times, for the blog.  Although it my site, I try hard not to shove my grill front and center of every photo or post.

The blog is about beauty, fashion, relationships, travel, life and basically my vision of the universe and my passions.  It is not about me.

I chose to include my shoot with Jennifer, because I am so proud of the make up artistry, styling of the shoot, photography and editing.  Not only that, she’s so nice and we had fun, and will be working together again.

Photography helps to release a creative facet of myself, and to be able to style a shoot, and do all the cosmetics artistry and hair, is a plus.

I love the photo of me and my husband above, because we were having a great night, going to dinner and a concert. I like how you can see us, but you can’t.  It’s more the idea of a couple that is portrayed.

Animal Print hat, Prada, white blonde, Texas, Old Town Spring, Luxor Living and Style, Houston Top Bloggers, stylist, MUA, Photography in The Woodlands

I am an animal print lady.  I love my cheap, new hat in this, and I love that we are at a place we like to go together.  This picture is the true me. Throwing on a hat, lipstick, glasses and ear bobbles, and BAM!

Prada, glasses, Michael Kors, Marilyn Monroe, Luxor

This was interesting.  Blogging the same look daily isn’t any fun, so it’s nice to step out a little.  It turned out sort of Marilyn.

bald actor, New York men,

It was a blast shooting Vinnie in Laguna Beach.   What I learned was that it is entirely different photographing men than it is women.

They want to look good, but you don’t want to take away from the manliness by over softening with filters.  He’s a very masculine type guy, and I wanted to enhance that. His little pet Sabatino helps to show his sensitive side, however!

The Perfectly Prada blog post was one of the first of the year.  This is the point I decided to just be myself, take pictures and create style how I want, and not try to meet typical expectations.

Mr Sjoberg of KS TENNIS USA made a reluctant appearance for the blog, so I could further my photography  portfolio experience with the male species.

Full body shots are hard to shoot, when you’re an average person.  Sitting down usually doesn’t help matters either! However, it was a lovely Saturday night at church, it’s in focus, and did I mention I love animal print things? It’s sort of a reserved jungle kitty look.  Fun.

Part of the fun of running your own blog venture, is the opportunity to work with various brands.

This shot was part of a STUDIO GEAR COSMETICS post, and there will be more from them to come, but it’s so much more difficult than it looks to photograph makeup artistry, so I was glad they were pleased with the outcome.

I have deals pending with other types of companies, and can not wait to see what happens and what is going on a year from now! Thanks so much for reader and follower support, and I wish everyone the best possible for 2014!

CLASSIC LEVI’S DAY

levi1 levi1bw levi shoot 003 levi shoot 068levihug
Today was a classic Levi’s kind of a day.  Today consisted of running errands together which included a quick meeting for business at a local Starbucks (any visit to a Starbucks by this man is completely rare…he does not require caffeine to operate as the rest of us do) then there were more errands followed by a quick lunch.

One of my day’s challenges was getting him to stop long enough today to take a few shots for this Levi’s blog post!

We actually laughed so hard and it was really fun when we stopped to snap pictures at a place I used to consider to be my own personal hidden swampy place.  However, when we got to my super secret swampy place, we found that it wasn’t a secret anymore. Tables, benches, an asphalt trail and bridge had been added, so it’s not a secret anymore! It is still an extremely secluded spot in the middle of our town.
I guess I feel strongly about the Levi Strauss & Company products because I feel that now more than ever, we need to support our American companies and jobs.  If you don’t support America, who will ?

Levi Strauss is a worldwide company that’s been around since 1853 and its headquarters is in San Francisco, California.  Levi jeans are a classic…forever, sort of like animal print. Levi’s are for every age.

It would not matter if I were wearing a $300 pair of jeans…my body is still my body, any pair of jeans isn’t going to magically transform me into a supermodel.
He has on a black tuxedo styled shirt by Guess and his favorite Levi’s Authentic cut. (Skinny jeans on a guy freak me out!) My black short waist blazer is from Guess as well.

Join in the fun and send in any hot shots you may have in your Levi’s!  I would love to post!

CALIFORNIA ROAD TRIP- SAUSALITO & HALF MOON BAY

Half Moon Bay, Hotel

The next day’s adventure was only intended

to be a late morning breakfast followed by a nice drive down the coast towards Monterrey, buy hey…what’s the rush?

My husband decided we just hadn’t had enough of the Golden Gate, so we had to drive over it, stop and position ourselves at various spots to get the best view. we had both been there before, but the whole idea behind this trip was just to experience things together.

San Francisco

It was cold and windy so I had to resort to wearing a hat for the rest of the day.

A nice surprise was when he drove us to Sausalito and we hung out there, and ate lunch over looking the coastal town.  We relaxed and shopped all afternoon before heading to Monterrey.

Sometime along the coast as it just was beginning to get dark, he noticed a freeway sign that said “Half Moon Bay.”

There is a Kevin Costner movie we loved, “Rumor Has It” that was based around the town of Half Moon Bay, so we decided to  get off the freeway on a whim and check it out.

It was tucked away along the coast. With  merky, cold air and fog, it was getting dark, so we decided to stay.   We were able to get to the beach just at Sunset, and found this funny sign posted at the beach.

We found an old time styled  Main Street area and Half Moon Bay Inn.  It was another really neat place.  Nestled above a nice Italian restaurant , “It’s Italia,” it was the perfect  Inn.

The place was amazing, we dined downstairs, where we met a local man who told us stories about Gerard Butler filming a movie there earlier this year,  called “Chasing Mavericks.”

As we drove around the next morning, the real estate agent in me was curious as to the average price of a home there, compared to Texas and I learned that generally what you would pay $300,000 for in Houston, would cost you over $1,000,000 in Half Moon Bay.  $300,000 would possibly by you 2 bedroom condo with 1200 square feet that you don’t really want. Yes, Texas has it’s advantages.

An early morning stroll on the beach is where we met Patty, who took this picture for us. A friendly woman whose husband died a year earlier – right as they were retiring, taught us a lesson about living for now, because who knows about tomorrow…and then we were off for more coastal touring as we headed towards Monterrey !

California Road Trip -DAY ONE (PART 2)

Lombard Street , California Vacation , Luxor Living & Style , Personal Blog
After our afternoon on the wharf, pigging on some seafood snacks,

we decided to leave in the car and tour a bit while simultaneously looking for a hotel with a vacancy…. Driving up and down steep hills, enjoying the crisp, cool air, it occurred to us  to look for Lombard Street.
That is the world famous, winding road in San Francisco, peppered with wonderful foliage and homes. I am all about beautiful plants and landscapes, so we went!

It was a very touristy thing to do, but yes, we got out of our cars and joined the masses collected along the street to take photos.
My favorite flower is the hydrangea, and there were plenty so I was in heaven!

Side note:  remember the blog about the Pink & Pepper heels I just bought ?  I’d purchased them with our trip in mind, and don’t they look great?!?  I got so many compliments when I wore them. I do think I was the only person in SF without a sweatshirt on, and people were looking as if I was a Martian, but oh well !
Stephanie Dawn Sjoberg , personal blog, Lombard Street, San Francisco travel

I was perfectly comfortable in my black tiered shorts,  flowing polka dot top, blazer and scarf.  This entire outfit was from Forever 21, and the scarf was from Macy’s. The gold bag is Michael Kors and of course, the shoes are Pink & Pepper. (Which you can’t see in this picture, due to the photographer 😉 LOL )

After the Lombard Street event, we continued on to China Town…which was interesting and funny.  My husband loves hole-in-the-wall Asian restaraunts , so we stopped into one eating establishment… (and yes, we did just eat a bite on the wharf, but hey, that was two hours ago!) but we were there only briefly….and I won’t go into the story, just noting that I think our hole-in-the-wall experience cured him of his addiction.
We went to various C-Town shops, but by this point, we really needed to focus on a place to stay for the night.

Every single hotel was booked, due to the America’s Cup race being in town. So we got extremely lucky when we happened by a motel, that had only one room left!

It was only about 7 minutes from the wharf area, had a Walgreen’s next door (for snacks and all the little things you forgot to pack) and a Mel’s Diner and an Ihop just down the block for breakfast in the morning!

SECO DE CARNE – PERUVIAN BEEF STEW

I had to drag out the recipe to make a new batch of Seco de Carne this weekend. (A very spicy Peruvian beef stew.)

The Whitney Houston song I’m Every Woman plays happily in my head when I cook.  I feel fulfilled and useful and whole when I am able to prepare a home cooked meal for him. Old school, I know…but it’s really about making time and doing for another person. (Again I say…I’ve never met a man who has a dream in life to find a woman to have to take out to dinner every night. In fact, I can’t tell you how many of my guy friends complain about this quite often.  They especially hate it when the female expects it.)  Just sayin. Check out the recipe below!

If you have been of the mindset that men love nothing more, than taking you out to fancy restaurants night after night, watching you eat and drink up his money, you would be wrong.

Ask any man, I mean, any man, and he will tell you that he absolutely loves it when a woman prepares a great meal at home.

I have a lot a male friends, in various ages, and this is something that comes up frequently.  Even if as man has plenty of money, he begins to think a little less of the woman if she doesn’t ever offer to invite him over for dinner.   It may seem old school, but look at it this way…if you make a great deal of money, and  work a lot, and the man finds that attractive, then you have a bigger problem!

Before we began dating, I’d decided to stay home every Sunday night, and make “Sunday Dinner.”   I did this, to hold on to my inner peace and enjoy my home life and love of being a homemaker, although I was divorced and living alone.  It added a measure of stability to my life.

Once we began seeing each other, I’d invited him over to my house for my weekly Sunday dinner. He’d commented at the time that no one ever did that.  Women are different now, and they want to be taken out all the  time.

People are sometimes amazed, men and women, when they find out I cook.  It’s not that I absolutely love to cook and want the stress of feeding other people and making sure I have all the ingredients (which I never do).  It’s more of a way to express love for someone.  My husband always gets so happy when I cook!  He says over and over how it makes him feel special and loved. It is a gesture of caring and unselfishness.  We both like to eat healthy most of the time, so it helps to stay in and have a party of two all alone at home with our customized menu, a movie rental and a few light beers or wine.

It also makes life easier on me, because if I make enough, it can be another dinner and a lunch.

Friends ask me why we don’t go out much at night, but to us, it’s like taking sand to the beach! We have what we want at home.  We do enjoy food, and do go out for breakfast and sometimes a nice lunch or dinner, but it’s so great just to have a cozy meal at home.

That being said, I’d made Seco de Carne recently for the first time, because his mother had moved back to Peru, and he was missing her and her Peruvian cooking. Her cooking is absolutely amazing, so I decided to give it a shot!  Seco de Carne is a spicy Peruvian beef stew. It turned out great, so I made it again tonight, to share the recipe with you. Take a picture of the ingredients with your cell so you have it at the store! Please let me know if you try it, what you think!

WHAT YOU NEED:

1  3.5 pound beef round sirloin roast

5 new potatoes

2 green bell peppers

1 large white onion

2 14.5 ounce cans Hunt’s diced tomatoes(celery, onion, flavor)

1/3 cup minced garlic

Flour

2 tablespoons ADOBO seasoning

1 tablespoon Crushed Red Pepper spice

1 tablespoon oregano spice

salt and black pepper

1/2 cup oil (Olive Oil, Garlic Oil or Coconut Oil)

_______________________________________________

Alrighty!  Start off by salt and peppering your beef. Then bread the beef with a coating of flour.

Have a pot begin to boil with your oil, and minced garlic.

Once boiling begins, place the beef in the oil and brown each side for about 6 minutes . Throw in chopped onion, and green peppers before pouring in both cans of diced tomatoes and adding two cups of water.

Then put in your sliced potato wedges while waiting for it to begin boiling again.

Also add in the Adobo, and crushed red pepper and oregano spices. This is the part where I would lower the heat to medium, and because I love garlic, I would add another 3 tablespoons to the top and let the mixture simmer for an hour.

After an hour , you can remove the roast from the pot, and slice it up into medallions then place the medallions back into the pot to finish simmering for about 20 minutes or until cooked all the way through. Once they look done, turn off heat and allow to sit for at least 20 minutes to allow beef to soak up the flavorings as it cools a bit.

Makes about 6 to 8 servings.

Serve with jasmine rice, a nice salad, and enjoy!
