      Glasses by GLASSESUSA

You just don’t realize how bad your distance vision has gotten, until you find yourself driving down the road with a passenger that can read the street signs about a mile before the signs come into focus for you!  Incidents like this will help to make you come to the realization, that your vision is inferior.

In my case, my husband was already driving me insane, demanding that I go get an eye exam at the first of the year anyway, so when I got word from GlassesUSA that they wanted to sponsor me to try their products, I was extremely eager to go to their site, and check them out!

I wasn’t sure how in the world a person would be able to easily and accurately order prescription eyeglasses online.

First, I went to a local eye doctor to get my vision exam and I received my prescription for the glasses.  It was at that point, that they began to show me my eyeglass options…non of which included anything under the price of $300.

The exam cost me $25 due to my insurance plan.  I left, with my prescription in hand, and went home to shop online at GlassesUSA.com  to seek out and buy glasses !

The coolest thing about shopping for eyeglasses on their site, was their app that allows you to upload your face, and try on glasses virtually so there’s no guesswork in how they’re going to look on you when they arrive!  I took the photo above of my computer screen so you could see how cool it is!

The glasses I chose (shown above) were delivered to me within less than 2 weeks, they fit perfectly and the pricing is so much lower than other places I’d seen!   They have designer glasses, and everything is easy to shop through and find.

I will be wearing my glasses more than likely on many blogs to come! I honestly love them! Thanks, GlassesUSA!

On top of the already low prices they offer, GlassesUSA is giving my readers an additional discount code of 10% off!

The year zipped by quickly.  What happened to the good old days that you see in movies in which people had time to sit around outside on the patio, drink tea and gossip?  I need time like that.

There were a lot of photos taken for the blog… probably thousands, but these are the ones I am choosing to highlight.

If you click on each photo, it takes you to the original blog post to see more. I choose photos of people, since that is one of my passions.   If there is a photo of me, my husband took it, which is a miracle/fluke, but it’s included because he does help and when we are not rushing, it’s fun for us.

I try to use other people at times, for the blog.  Although it my site, I try hard not to shove my grill front and center of every photo or post.

The blog is about beauty, fashion, relationships, travel, life and basically my vision of the universe and my passions.  It is not about me.

I chose to include my shoot with Jennifer, because I am so proud of the make up artistry, styling of the shoot, photography and editing.  Not only that, she’s so nice and we had fun, and will be working together again.

Photography helps to release a creative facet of myself, and to be able to style a shoot, and do all the cosmetics artistry and hair, is a plus.

I love the photo of me and my husband above, because we were having a great night, going to dinner and a concert. I like how you can see us, but you can’t.  It’s more the idea of a couple that is portrayed.

I am an animal print lady.  I love my cheap, new hat in this, and I love that we are at a place we like to go together.  This picture is the true me.Throwing on a hat, lipstick, glasses and ear bobbles, and BAM!

This was interesting.  Blogging the same look daily isn’t any fun, so it’s nice to step out a little.  It turned out sort of Marilyn.

They want to look good, but you don’t want to take away from the manliness by over softening with filters.  He’s a very masculine type guy, and I wanted to enhance that. His little pet Sabatino helps to show his sensitive side, however!

The Perfectly Pradablog post was one of the first of the year.  This is the point I decided to just be myself, take pictures and create style how I want, and not try to meet typical expectations.

Full body shots are hard to shoot, when you’re an average person.  Sitting down usually doesn’t help matters either! However, it was a lovely Saturday night at church, it’s in focus, and did I mention I love animal printy things? It’s sort of a reserved jungle kitty look.  Fun.

Part of the fun of running your own blog venture, is the opportunity to work with various brands.

This shot was part of a Studio Gear Cosmetics post, and there will be more from them to come, but it’s so much more difficult than it looks to photograph makeup artistry, so I was glad they were pleased with the outcome.

I have deals pending with other types of companies, a forthcoming book and can not wait to see what happens and where we are a year from now! Thanks so much for reader and follower support, and I wish everyone the best possible for 2014!

COLOR by STUDIO GEAR COSMETICS

I was extremely excited to receive my very own Studio Gear Holiday color palette in the mail for review.

It comes with directions on where they feel the colors should be placed, and although I am typically not a direction reading type of person…I decided to follow instruction this once. For fun.

There were quite a few combinations you could do with the eyes, although the instructed suggestions are probably best.  The blush is a fabulous  winter color, but I also decided to use the white as a highlighter here and there!

The link to the Studio Gear siteshows a lot of neat products including brushes, lip color, concealers and skin care!  My discount code for Studio Gear is SGHOLIDAY and is good for 10% off to readers!

I can’t wait to try more from Studio Gear, but now is the time for great bargains and gift buying! Check them out!

California Coastline Jaunt (Part 1)

California Coastline Jaunt
(part 1)
La Jolla Sea Lions, California Road Trip, bblogger, fblogger, travel, California, Stephanie Dawn Sjoberg, San Diego, Carlsbad

We have both always wanted to live in California.  The weather makes each day so much more pleasant.  The air seems to go deeper into your body as you inhale.  The air, however, is very expensive in California, therefore at this juncture, we will be happy to live where we are, and visit the California air whenever we can.

Last year’s trip, was one in which we flew in to San Francisco, and toured the coast south, as seen in the  California Road Trip  series of blog posts.

We flew into San Diego to check out some tennis facilities and have meetings, and then drove north up the coastline, through La Jolla, Encinitas, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and many stops along the way.

We stopped in La Jolla after a meeting, and took a few hours to enjoy the sea lion park area. You can get pretty close, and it’s fun watching them sun bathe and chill out. It smells like a zoo, but oh well. The beauty of nature was worth it.

We found a cute place to sit outside and eat wonderful Mexican food.  It also had a great view of the ocean from the outdoor seating area.

Jose’s Courtroom  had really good food and was a great place to relax and enjoy the view.

After more tinkering around, we ended up driving further north to Carlsbad, where our hotel was.  Grand Pacific Palisades  was a wonderful place to stay, since we were planning on meeting friends further north, in Newport and south in Del Mar during our stay.

I booked this trip through Orbitz.com which I’d never used before.  The funny thing, is that I’d originally booked a cute little beach front place, because the photos were so great.  After booking, only then did it occur to me to begin looking on the web for user reviews.  These days, customers can go online and post their own photos of how things really looked, so I got scared about my choice.

I’d called the hotel,to inquire about which room we would be staying in.  The person on the phone asked “the reason for our stay” at which point I’d mentioned I was doing a blog post on the O.C., and we had other business as well.  He told me he wasn’t sure what room we would have yet.

The next day, I get an email from Orbitz, asking me to call them.  It seems, the manager of the hotel, canceled my reservations, and did not want me staying there.  Orbitz was embarrassed, but very accommodating, in helping me find a better place to stay, which is how we ended up with the fabulous Grand Pacific Palisades.  My Orbitz rep said he was probably just scared of a negative review.  After that, I checked out the hotel again, and found that this manager had quite a few negative reviews on his personal behavior towards guests, so it was fortunate this happened.

Actually, I don’t give negative reviews on anything.  If someone sends me a product and I find it o be inferior…then I say nothing.  I just will not promote something that isn’t good.

That being said…Orbitz.com was wonderful to work with after that happened.

Back to the trip…that night was Halloween, so after enjoying time together watching the sunset on the terrace, we had dinner at the hotel, and turned in early so we could get up the next morning to enjoy our day….(part 2 in the next blog post!)

POISON IVY

I recently heard a comedian talking about a girl with a “bitchy resting face.”  I laughed so hard because I’d never heard anyone refer to the term “resting face” before.

Then I had to wonder, is that me? Oh no, I think it might be.  Some people tell friends of mine that I look mean and we laugh about it because I am a nice person! 90% of what you are telling people, you are telling them with your body language and face.

Sometimes, there is just a lot on my mind, so walking around with a big grin painted on, is not in the forefront of my thoughts at times, hence the bitchy resting face!

With that said, in editing these photos for the blog, I took a good look at myself and realized I may not come off as the friendly and fun person I actually am!

by Michael Kors, shoes by Jessica Simpson

I love this new pleather top from Forever 21 because it’s got stretchy fabric on the sides and back so it bends and breathes. I really need the stretchy part because this past year of blogging has added 12 pounds to my frame! EECK! This year will be different!

With the new year of this blog, and all that comes with it,I’ve learned two things.  I will not gain one more pound as I will be make time for the gym again and I will work on my resting face and try to smile more!

I suppose the issue is not living here in the moment enough, but instead I am constantly thinking six months down the line. If I am walking down the road…I am not really only walking down the road.  I am thinking about my taxes, business, making dinner, have the dogs been to the Vet, why is our health insurance so high, when am I going to pay my car off, does my husband think I do enough around the house, do I care if my husband thinks I do enough around the house, why is my car insurance still so high when I keep get older every year and so does my car and various and sundry other things that warrant thought and concern.

And that’s my story! I suppose that is what is actually showing up on a bitchy resting face of most people. At least that’s my story.

SIX SHOTS JULY OF TWO THOUSAND and THIRTEEN

SIX SHOTS

july of two thousand thirteen

Prada, Michael Kors, Six Shots, Luxor Living and Style, blogger, Texas, Houston, white blonde, The Woodlands, Old Town Spring

July was hot. There were a lot of ups and downs. Things are not always easy. Or Fun. Or exciting. Some days are scheduled tight. I have friends that have a few social events every weeks with friends.  We get excited to have Movie Nights at home with the babies. Actually, on a Friday this month, we went to the movie theater around five, thinking we were going to avoid the masses.  We were wrong.  A theater full of other people had thought the same thing.

I guess I like to throw in the reality of life because it is not my intent to only post lovely pictures and pretend life is always fabulous.  There are things which require thought, planning and stress. These are the reasons why it’s so nice to get to steal time on occasion and do and share some things that are nice and positive and fun!

The top photo of us was taken before dinner and a concert!( The Rock Girl Blog Post.) The weather was great, we were relaxed and happy and I really think it’s funny/trendy/cool that he is the “background” guy.

The photo above is a bird bath in Old Town Spring which motivated me to continue with my yard plans.  It’s just been too hot and even the bamboo I planted is having difficulty surviving!

The post was called Blue Shoe. I could spend all day in Old Town Spring!

Luxor Living and Style, Animal Print, white blonde, hair, Stephanie Dawn Sjoberg, Luxor Living and Style , blog, blogger, fashion, Old Town Spring, Prada, Michael Kors, Hamilton bag

The photo above was from a different day in Old Town Spring. It was a very happy day. The “A Good Day, and YES…More Animal Print”  blog post only took a few minutes and we honestly, sat on the bench and talked. This was one of those fun blog posts…not like some of the ones where I have to explain how to use the focus button and consider quitting the style posts!

I think the only thing that’s probably worse than getting your photo taken, is taking one of yourself for a blog post!  So I tell myself to be so grateful that I have a friend who likes to help!

The Woodlands Waterway

I adore introspective cranes, so I had to snap the one above at the Woodlands Waterway! He was just chillin.

Maybe it’s not terribly artsy, however, there is nothing that brings me more joy than to see Jazzy when she’s happy.  Nothing makes her happier than to be going somewhere in her “Jazzy Purse.”  She goes crazy when you get it out, and on this day she got to go to the local Farmer’s Market for berry picking.  I especially love the fact that my husband is man enough to carry a polka dot Jazzy bag! Love this shot!

And in closing…yes…it’s an Old Town Spring shot. It’s literally just a few minutes from where we live and we love it.  There are so many places there that I’ve not yet been to, like a wine tasting place, the dog bakery, tons of dress shops or garden places! It’s my happy place!

And those are my Six Shots for July!
