CALIFORNIA COASTLINE JAUNT (part 2)

The last morning we were in California, it was a very cold and merky day.  We had done so much running around, back and forth to Newport, Del Mar and Irvine…that I felt like I had no time to relax.  We rolled out of bed and decided to go find a beach, sit on a bench, let me drink coffee and just do nothing.

We ended up in Leucadia, which is about 25 miles north of San Diego and actually part of Encinitas.

It is a great, old time beach town, with newer, modern areas sprinkled in.  Although real estate is less expensive there than it is in Laguna Beach, Newport or Del Mar…it still is shocking to see what $500,000 buys you.

For the sake of comparison, the recent median sale price for homes in Encinitas was just under $800,000 recently, compared to that of Laguna Beach which is $1,800,000 at this juncture.

I was promised coffee and donuts on the beach on this morning, and my tour guide delivered.  We came across Leucadia Donut Shop which was a fun and kooky place.  The walls were adorned with literally years of photos of customers. There was a line out the door.

We got our donuts after people watching at the small shop for a while.  A sweet dad stopping to get his small kids a treat before church, another dad with his kids…all still in their pajama pants.  After agreeing on the inappropriateness of pajama pants in public, we headed to the beach, to sit and visit and breathe.

Sunday morning surfers were speckled around in their wetsuits.  Although Leucadia may not have been as fancy and high end as Laguna or Del Mar, it was so cozy and relaxing that it was one of the best parts of the trip and I see why people are fortunate to call it home.

If only I’d of had my wet suit with me!

ROCK GIRL

ROCK GIRL

Oh my goodness! What we do for love.  I am totally a music person, but when my husband announced he’d purchased Kid Rock concert tickets, I must admit, I wasn’t really thrilled.

I’m really just not a concert type of person. There is a difference between being a music person and a concert person.  Additionally, it is near 100 degrees on most summer days, so the thought of getting through a hot summer night at an outdoor concert arena, didn’t seem like that great of an idea to me. I mean…what does one wear?

bracelet by Tiffany & Co.

First of all, one wears an up do. Next, I opted for my new comfy  Jessica Simpson wedges since clearly walking long distances would be part of the program and flip flops are never part of my program.

I even decided to walk on the wild side and painted my nails and toes a deep purple color called Eggplant Frost from Wet and Wild.

Next, I opted for a simple comfy and stretchy top and skirt, mainly because I was promised a romantic Woodlands Waterway dinner before the concert, so stretchy is always good!

The skirt was new from Forever 21 and I thought the floppy disks all over it made for a fun piece! Totally comfortable without being sloppy!

prada glasses,

The best part was that I survived the evening and it actually was a fabulous show!  I actually loved one of his songs already (posted below)  but the concert zipped by fast because he it was actually really good.

I snapped a few pictures along the way after dinner that I wanted to share, but the crane in the Woodlands Waterway photo below is probably the best!

I had actually gotten so lucky because there was a huge rain and tiny cool front so it was wonderful and breezy for once this summer which made for a bearable night.

Do you ever have those periods in your life where you are actually happy? I’ve had a few in the past, and this is one of those time periods now.  I am happy. Believe me…it could all change tomorrow, or worse yet…there could be no tomorrow. It’s horrible to have to remind yourself to take time to be together, schedule a moment under the sun to be happy and relax. This is something I am working on!

SIX SHOTS: MAY 2013

SIX SHOTS

of the month

may two thousand and thirteen

Prada, Old Town Spring, blogger, photography

Like it or not…May is over, summer is here and the year is flying by.  I am struggling with trying to cram everything I want to in the course of each day.  Some days, I try to squeeze some time to enjoy an hour or two in Old Town Spring, as seen above in the Hola, Baby post…or below in the Bird House Crazy post.

In sticking with my Spring theme, the shot below was part of the Holes blog post from a different day.

I sort of mainly wanted to include the collection below, because it was from my first sponsored post from the BA STAR Cosmetics post!  Hopefully the first of many to come!

As mentioned before, my husband takes the pictures of me, and I take all the good pictures! This is the most challenging part of the blog to deal with, but he pushed me this month, really got into it and tried his best to fulfill his duty!  The blog is kind of turning into our personal hobby. The one below is from the Retro White post, which is his favorite post of the month, so it’s included below, because I always let him pick one favorite post of the month.

I did not have a lot of spare time for photography  this month, but last week I had this weird little frog that jumped towards me when I opened the back door, so I ran to get the camera… since I had a willing model.  She sat there in my face, staring at me while I had about 10 minutes to play with the different camera settings. What is it thinking? Does it have feelings of any kind? Is it bored with it’s life?  These are the things I wondered as I tried to hone my photography skills.  Maybe he was waiting for a kiss to turn him back into a fabulous Prince. Ugh, I didn’t pick up on that at the time!

Handbags, jewelry and good times are great….but absolutely nothing is better than getting close to nature. There is such beauty in the way it all works.

This month it’s on!  It is summer, so although Apartment Leasing has picked up tremendously, I have wonderful plans for my pet project here and I can’t wait to see what the month brings!

BLACK SUMMER PART 2

BLACK SUMMER PART 2

I loved the Black Summer Inspiration board that I posted so much, I decided to walk the walk and coordinate an outfit with things I already owned, and simulate the board.

I recently saw the dress on a friend’s post on Instagram, which reminded me that I also had it tucked away somewhere.  When she stated that she also had owned it for years, and referred to it as a “staple” I couldn’t of agreed more!

The turquoise beads never get worn, but I thought they would be fun with the big earrings.

The lime green wallet and pink shoes add to the color pops.

I also opted to line the bottom of the eyes with the turquoise color in the Batik Sun palette from Estee Lauder.

BLACK SUMMER

Black Summer, Luxor Living and Style, polyvore, Mac Lip color, Heroine, Michael Kors bag, pink and black

It’s always been my personal thought, that just because the warm months of the year are upon us…it doesn’t have to mean that it’s time to whip out the bold, bright floral prints.

I’ve always felt that by using accessories as a crutch, you can make some of those black staples in your closet work during more months of the year.

I believe I came to the conclusion years ago once I realized that if you are shopping on a budget, floral fashions can often tend to look dated and cheap, so you have to be careful when choosing them.

With that in mind, I tried to build an inspiration board around solid black for summer, and jazzed it up with season appropriate accessories!  This occurred to me when I saw a friend in a black dress that I also own.  When she commented that it was a “staple” and also had it for years, I decided to do this post, as well as the upcoming photo post on “the dress!” (check back for the post!)

Black is my uniform.  Nothing looks better. Oxblood??? I am a rebel, I couldn’t follow.  So I am writing on what I really wear, think, and believe and after years of retail visual merchandising, marketing and management…sometimes I want to rebel against the establishment and keep my money in my pocket, and sometimes I choose to partake.  The richest people I know, are also the cheapest so it’s all about balance.

Fashion should be fun and strategic and the idea is to build a wardrobe over time. One that helps you to be the best you possible!

THE GIFT

THE Gift THAT

GIVES BACK

I will begin by saying that my husband is pestering me to write this particular post.  while I do not wish to bore anyone with my animal stories, he also made the point that Jazzy is in my heart and that I should share that with people. I will make it brief!

Jazmine Lee Dawn, (her full birth name) turned 12.  As she gets into her last years, I appreciate her more and more.  Because of this, we are starting to do a lot more to make her happy. There are more walks and outings, of course when she was thinner, there were many more outings in her “Jazzy Purse” to the malls and movies.  There was even a visit to Ihop in which she sat quietly in her Jazzy Purse, waiting for random french fries to come her way.

She is quiet, patient, polite and low maintenance. I adopted her 12 years ago for $86 and the gift of a home, that I gave to her, has returned to me in unconditional love and companionship. She was there to watch me cry during hard times, when no one else was there.

So yes, I bought my pet a cupcake and candles and made a special point to let her know it was for her!  She was so excited once she tasted the icing!  Jazzy has been on a diet lately so she has felt deprived!

Again I ask, if you are considering the acquisition of a new pet, please, please, please check out your local shelters and rescues before you do.  There are amazing full breed pets there that humans were too irresponsible to keep.

Jazzy has been the one perfect thing in my life and the best $86 I ever spent!

    Happy Birthday, Jazzy!
