“Well, I guess no one has seen food before,” the rude, bald man says behind me as I used my Cannon Rebel to snap food portraits.

“Well…she writes a blog,” my husband replied.

“Oh,” rude bald man replies.

While I didn’t ever attend “food review” classes in college, it seems pretty straightforward and simple.  Eat and tell.

Cody’s  in La Jolla is wonderful. Period.  The pancakes ( yes, on vacation, pancakes are legal ) are actually fabulous because they taste like “cake.”  As it was meant to be.  You truly do not realize how bad every day pancakes are, until you have these.  Mine were Blueberry, garnished with strawberries on top.

One morning, my husband ordered an omelette with goat cheese, among other things tucked inside it inside, and it was heavenly.

As if the ocean view and crisp California morning sea air was not beautiful enough…this place knows how American breakfast is to be done.  It is across the street from the La Valencia Hotel, and the outdoor seating has the ocean view.

Pets are welcome, and there is even a mini pet “menu.”  Going back, is something to live for, and actually I have business to attend to in San Diego anyway, so I will be working pancakes from Cody’s  into my future again!  If you live in the area, and have not ever eaten here, then you have not truly lived.

Check out the past few blog posts or my Instagram Account for more pictures from La Jolla!

Fabulousness!

Sometimes I don’t say much, but this post merits some explanation.    We needed a break, and for several reasons…our break ended up in La Jolla, California.

Although the week off had been planned for a year, those last few days, I was so busy…I found myself packing two hours before it was time to leave for the plane.  It was because of this, that I didn’t pack very well.  Fortunately, my husband warned me about a possible “chilly” night, so I should bring a coat.

Instead, I opted for my black poncho.  Actually, I refer to it as my “snuggy.”  It’s funny because I literally wear it around the house, over my night gown if I get cold, or over my nightgown to take the dogs for an early morning walk…or even to church when I have on a dress, but don’t feel like wearing a bra and want to hide jiggles.

Hear me when I tell you, it was COLD and WINDY in La Jolla on the coast and the front desk staff saw me in some variation of outfits every single day which included my poncho and some type of hat – which was to combat the wind.

The Steven Madden booties are extremely comfortable and fun and I was so glad I packed them. It was only in haste that I grabbed a handful of hats and I was glad I did. It enabled me to be lazy and avoid the man in the hotel room constantly asking “Are you ready yet?” When it’s all very clear that I wasn’t ready yet.

While I did attempt to do some light shopping while away…it didn’t go so well, so I decided to be content with old, comfy clothes and hats and I promised myself I’d do better next time.

In the end, it didn’t matter too much because we just relaxed, and enjoyed the natural beauty that surrounds the La Jolla Cove. Sometimes it just has to be about comfort and ease. And, I had my “snuggie.”  The funny thing is that a work friend of mine has the exact same one, and she is emotionally attached to hers as well. We always laguh about how fabulous it makes anything you are wearing look, when it’s actually just a “Linus” blanket.  Oh my gosh, I am so attached to that thing!

TOP GOLF for HOUSTON FUN

Ken Sjoberg, tennis lesson in Spring , tennis in The Woodlands, tennis meet up, Forest Oaks, Top Golf, North Houston, KS Tennis, KS Tennis USA

We were invited to a brand new Top Golf facility on Sunday, which happens to be just a mile away from where my husband teaches at a Tennis Facility, so he was way more excited than I initially was to go.  He was so excited, that it was cute!

I’d known of some girlfriends who had gone to the location on the other side of Houston, and they had said it was fun…but it was one of those things you need to go to and see and really experience.  It was totally a blast!

While I took golf lessons as a child, I didn’t appreciate the sport as much as my brother did, which means I did not exactly excel. At  Top Golf  you do not have to be a golf pro to have fun!  There’s great food , drinks and music as well as fabulous sitting areas overlooking the greens.  It’s great if you just want to tag along with others who enjoy hitting because it’s still a great atmosphere.

Did I mention food?  I was expecting the food to be of a low end quality like cheaper, fast food.  I was so wrong!  The food was impressive.  Unfortunately, we ate dinner before going, so I couldn’t pig out as much as I’d of liked to!  What a mistake!  The food was fabulous!

The Top Golf facility we went to is the one in Spring, just a few miles from The Woodlands Mall area, and they continually served samples of their food items throughout the evening.  The menu boasts a little something for everyone.

Top Golf  also has enclosed banquet rooms with flat screens playing sports channels.  Each room is attached to it’s own outdoor patio and sitting area for those who wish to hit a few balls.  It’s a great concept for birthdays or workplace events of any size.  Since they do hold special events, they take special care in the area of food service.

Did I mention to you that there were drinks?  The drink options were fabulous and there was a huge indoor bar as well.  If I were single, it might be a place to stumble upon my future ex husband.  Just sayin.  They are opened until 2 am during the weekends and crank the music up louder for an even more fun atmosphere!

The golf is still going on into the night because they light up the green with fun multi colored lighting, and you can tell if you made your mark or not with each stroke because of the electronic gaming machines stationed at each hitting post!

I would  give this place a shot if you have a party to throw, have out of town guests to entertain, or just want to hit a few golf balls.  It really was a relaxing, fun time!  Click to check out other Top Golf locations here.

California Coastline Jaunt (Part 1)

California Coastline Jaunt
(part 1)
La Jolla Sea Lions, California Road Trip, bblogger, fblogger, travel, California, Stephanie Dawn Sjoberg, San Diego, Carlsbad

We have both always wanted to live in California.  The weather makes each day so much more pleasant.  The air seems to go deeper into your body as you inhale.  The air, however, is very expensive in California, therefore at this juncture, we will be happy to live where we are, and visit the California air whenever we can.

Last year’s trip, was one in which we flew in to San Francisco, and toured the coast south, as seen in the  California Road Trip  series of blog posts.

We flew into San Diego to check out some tennis facilities and have meetings, and then drove north up the coastline, through La Jolla, Encinitas, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and many stops along the way.

Ken Sjoberg, KS Tennis, fblogger, Luxor Living and Style, blog, California, La Jolla sea lions

We stopped in La Jolla after a meeting, and took a few hours to enjoy the sea lion park area. You can get pretty close, and it’s fun watching them sun bathe and chill out. It smells like a zoo, but oh well. The beauty of nature was worth it.
Ken Sjoberg, KS Tennis, Spring Texas tennis lessons, fblogger, bblogger, Stephanie Dawn Sjoberg, Luxor Living and Style, sea lions, California Road Trip,
We found a cute place to sit outside and eat wonderful Mexican food.  It also had a great view of the ocean from the outdoor seating area.

Jose’s Courtroom  had really good food and was a great place to relax and enjoy the view.

After more tinkering around, we ended up driving further north to Carlsbad, where our hotel was.  Grand Pacific Palisades  was a wonderful place to stay, since we were planning on meeting friends further north, in Newport and south in Del Mar during our stay.

I booked this trip through Orbitz.com which I’d never used before.  The funny thing, is that I’d originally booked a cute little beach front place, because the photos were so great.  After booking, only then did it occur to me to begin looking on the web for user reviews.  These days, customers can go online and post their own photos of how things really looked, so I got scared about my choice.

I’d called the hotel,to inquire about which room we would be staying in.  The person on the phone asked “the reason for our stay” at which point I’d mentioned I was doing a blog post on the O.C., and we had other business as well.  He told me he wasn’t sure what room we would have yet.

The next day, I get an email from Orbitz, asking me to call them.  It seems, the manager of the hotel, canceled my reservations, and did not want me staying there.  Orbitz was embarrassed, but very accommodating, in helping me find a better place to stay, which is how we ended up with the fabulous Grand Pacific Palisades.  My Orbitz rep said he was probably just scared of a negative review.  After that, I checked out the hotel again, and found that this manager had quite a few negative reviews on his personal behavior towards guests, so it was fortunate this happened.

Actually, I don’t give negative reviews on anything.  If someone sends me a product and I find it o be inferior…then I say nothing.  I just will not promote something that isn’t good.

That being said…Orbitz.com was wonderful to work with after that happened.

Back to the trip…that night was Halloween, so after enjoying time together watching the sunset on the terrace, we had dinner at the hotel, and turned in early so we could get up the next morning to enjoy our day….(part 2 in the next blog post!)

Hola, From Cincinati!

Cincinnati Bridge, travel blog, Luxor Living

It was once stated about my husband…(the one I call Liverpie when he’s rotten and Alejandro when he’s being a sexy Latin man…think “Buzz Lightyear in Latin mode)…isn’t interested in going down the road unless there’s a tennis match at the end of the line.  He would go to the moon if there was to be a tennis match there, so the individual was correct.

As luck would have it, we didn’t have to go to the moon…only Cincinnati.  There was an ATP Tournament there in which it turned out that my two favorite tennis pros would actually be playing each other!

Rafa Nadal plays Rodger, Cincinati Tennis, Ks Tennis Usa, Houston tennis, Ken Sjoberg, www.kstennisusa.com, Tennis in The Woodlands

The match between Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal started right after we got there. These two top ranked players had not played each other in years in the U.S. so it was really a thrill to get to see them both together. You would have to be a tennis lover to understand I suppose, but it was a great event. I took photos for our tennis business site, but gosh it’s so hard to get great action shots in tennis, and I really wanted one with both of these guys in it.

There were many other matches after this one, but in our hearts…we’d already seen the best match a person could see in 2013.

Ken Sjoberg, Stephanie Sjoberg, KS TENNIS USA, tennis in The Woodlands, Director of Tennis, Tennis management,

For the fashion readers of the blog, however, back to me!

SIDEBAR:  I came across a Youtube video a few months back by Jenna Marbles named WHAT BITCHES WEAR TO THE AIRPORT and I laughed so hard (despite her unnecessarily foul language) because I am the bitch she’s talking about. She believes we should all wear sweatpants and flip flops I guess, when we travel because she doesn’t want to have to wait in line as we unbuckle our strappy heels and take off our accessories.  Sorry, Jenna, but I like being dressed up, plus we had somewhere to be right after we landed…but since seeing the video I’m always worried she’s going to happen to be there to call me out.  My suggestion is that she be on time, so she won’t be in a rush when the TSA feel me all over and probe me.

That was just a sidebar on fashion and today’s travel, show when you see this next picture, in which my top is a wee bit wrinkled, understand that I do at least, travel very light.  I’ve learned over the years. These days you can be on a 7 day dream trip, but my husband forbids me to bring anything more than one carry on!

Other than tennis affairs, we made time to relax and enjoy time here and there, even taking a boat ride up and down the river, and of course the Realtor in me checked out the architecture on surrounding real estate. I also like to compare the cost of living from state to state. (This way, when a future client calls me from an area…relocating to Texas, I have an idea of what they are used to when they think $599 will get them a three bedroom apartment!) Cincinnati is so much more beautiful than I thought it would be.  I’d lived in Kentucky before, years ago…but never made the drive to Cincinnati.

And yes…it’s my gold straw hat, again! It made quite a few outings this summer which is actually a good thing in the real world because it means that I got my money out of it.  Not only that, but it’s just good planning.  When you are going to be outdoors all day watching tennis, or boating… who really wants to mess with a bunch of hair blowing all over? Not me.

This next picture may seem a little odd, however, close to our hotel and the tennis facility in Mason, Ohio is the absolutely biggest surprise at Outback Steakhouse.

I have never been a huge fan of Outback in Texas. There are many nice steakhouses that are elite and prime in Houston. We were tired and hungry and it was close by, so we stopped into Outback in Mason.

We noticed the people were fabulous, and the food was exceptional.  We ended up asking the manager why the food was so much better than the ones back home, and we were told that this one was an owner/operator location.

We had actually already eaten and were about to leave, but the owner, Sam Bonasso brought us a prime rib and crab cakes to sample.  Immaculate. Impeccable. It turns out that Sam is a top of the line Chef, and apparently there are 42 million ways to cook beef, one of which, takes basically all day. Not only that, but the menu is not a typical OUTBACK menu. They have crab stuffed mushroom caps and such! So if you are ever in the Cincinnati area, you really ought to try this place! This is embarrassing, but I have to say, we ended up eating there three times in a relatively short period.

     And that’s my Cincinnati story!

CLASSIC LEVI’S DAY

levi1 levi1bw levi shoot 003 levi shoot 068levihug
Today was a classic Levi’s kind of a day.  Today consisted of running errands together which included a quick meeting for business at a local Starbucks (any visit to a Starbucks by this man is completely rare…he does not require caffeine to operate as the rest of us do) then there were more errands followed by a quick lunch.

One of my day’s challenges was getting him to stop long enough today to take a few shots for this Levi’s blog post!

We actually laughed so hard and it was really fun when we stopped to snap pictures at a place I used to consider to be my own personal hidden swampy place.  However, when we got to my super secret swampy place, we found that it wasn’t a secret anymore. Tables, benches, an asphalt trail and bridge had been added, so it’s not a secret anymore! It is still an extremely secluded spot in the middle of our town.
I guess I feel strongly about the Levi Strauss & Company products because I feel that now more than ever, we need to support our American companies and jobs.  If you don’t support America, who will ?

Levi Strauss is a worldwide company that’s been around since 1853 and its headquarters is in San Francisco, California.  Levi jeans are a classic…forever, sort of like animal print. Levi’s are for every age.

It would not matter if I were wearing a $300 pair of jeans…my body is still my body, any pair of jeans isn’t going to magically transform me into a supermodel.
He has on a black tuxedo styled shirt by Guess and his favorite Levi’s Authentic cut. (Skinny jeans on a guy freak me out!) My black short waist blazer is from Guess as well.

Join in the fun and send in any hot shots you may have in your Levi’s!  I would love to post!
