COLD PLAY

When my hands and my chest/neck area get cold, it freaks me out.  It’s uncomfortable. I don’t like it. Thin skin, perhaps?

One of the very few things I’ve purchased this winter, is my new black wrap.   At first I thought…well, it makes me look fatter.  However, the bottom line, is that I don’t need to care what random people may think in my daily outings.  Although I’m sure it’s nice to be thought of as perfect…at this point, I just want to be warm.

I think my husband hates it, because it’s not very sexy or flattering in his mind…and lately, he’s seen way to much of it! It still remains my fun, cold weather friend and I love throwing it on with anything!

This was a Christmas time outing in Old Town Spring, and we were attempting to enjoy the Christmas season, but it was hard since one of us was in tennis attire in 40 degree weather…and it wasn’t me.

HOLA, BABY!

HOLA, BABY

glasses by Prada, shoes by Madden Girl, jacket from Forever 21

This is a place I’ve rediscovered in the past couple of years and it’s called Old Town Spring.

It’s so old time and Main Street styled, and I love it on pretty days.  There are cute restaurants and shopping spots.

Today was actually a quick appointment before a patio dinner, which included the dogs! When he pulled up in his car with the babies…I say, “Hola, baby!” Just like I always do.

Yet another cool front came through, so a jacket was needed, and this one is from Forever 21.  This jacket will be a forever piece because the stretchy poly blend will never die and the shape seems timeless to me.  Yes, peplums are in now, but this one is mild enough to drag around for years.

Everything else is old, including the black camisole top with cream colored lace.  The black tiered shorts are from last August and were purchased as a comfy vacation piece shown here.

I’m going to be doing more posts on my little time warp, which is Old Town Spring, because it’s so quaint and some of the shopping is so fun!

The very first time I was ever there, was one Sunday when I was a teenager with my mom.  I had very few, well hardly any friends…so mom was my friend.  She took me there for the annual Crawfish Festival which happens every April.

I remember what a beautiful day it happened to be and what a fun time we had.  I also remember a man with a soft drink in one hand and a giant turkey leg in the other.  He refused to let go of either item as he leaned forward and hurled… (by hurled…I mean “pea soup” style Exorcist movie)…yes hurled right in our pathway.

Ick.  I just have to tell everyone that part of the story as well, when reminiscing about my first Old Town Spring adventure. I’d never seen that before.

Huge public affairs with music and food and beer are great…but lazy days like this with less people around is more our scene.

I AM KORS for the HOLIDAYS

I AM KORS for the HOLIDAYS

My brother and I met for lunch today, and also went to pick up a coconut cake for the Thanksgiving Holiday Dinner I am planning.

It was a great day to snap a few pictures because I got to use my new Michael Korshandbag today which was an early birthday gift!
The watch is Michael Kors as well. I wear it all the time and love it.   The black patent platforms are by Jessica Simpson and are comfortable for hours!
I love the color of the Michael Kors bag, it is called “persimmon” and is a natural orange tone that seems to blend with a lot.
I love to buy random new pieces that can flush in with things you already own. News flash… everything you wear every day can’t be brand new! To me, the idea is to build and grow your wardrobe without going broke.

Sidebar:  I  never ever watched Sex in the Citybut the one time or so it happened to be on before I could change the channel, I thought it was ridiculous that Carrie was buying $400 shoes but then worried about her rent getting paid or money to go to dinner! Ugh! In your 20’s I suppose, but her character was clearly in her 40’s!

So my love affair with Kors handbags continues! One in every style and color would be fabulous, however my new persimmon Hamilton will do!

CALIFORNIA ROAD TRIP- CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA

California Road Trip-

Carmel-By-The-Sea

It’s official, I can die relatively happy!  I have finally made it back to Carmel, California.

If architecture, the ocean, landscape and a pet friendly environment, is your idea of heaven, then this is it.  Just be sure to take a big sack of money with you if you plan to stay.

Carmel California, California road trip, travel

The real estate agent in me, was curious about pricing, because it can tell you a lot about the demographics of a community.  My parents had toyed with the idea of moving there more than 25 years ago, but the sensible one of the relationship decided he liked being five times as wealthy by staying in Texas as opposed to moving to Carmel.

The neat thing about living in a place with high costs, is that you could assume your standard criminal can’t afford to be there! So you are buying  a little more peace and serenity with a lower than average chance of a violent crime or robbery taking place! I actually just got sidetracked checking data on a neat site called neighborhoodscout.com   Check it out if you want to see if you have a higher-than-national-average chance of getting assaulted, robbed or both!

Even with the economy the way it currently is, $200,000 buys you something to live in that you really wouldn’t want, compared to $200,000 in Texas being a very nice place you would be proud to own.

So, back to admiring the archetecture…. charming cottages that you may drive by and think..”I could probably afford at least that one.  Well, you probably can’t.  The median home value in The Woodlands, Texas in 2009 is listed at $250,700 versus Carmel-by-the-Sea at $661,466 according to city-data.com .

Still, the charming ocean front homes, landscaping and beaches are breath taking and I wish every town in every state could be so charming so more people could enjoy the beauty on a daily basis.

During the three nights we stayed, we were content to continue coming back to “our spot” which was a bench along the trail which lined the beach. (yes, I know…it’s that damn scarf again! But gee, it was cold and you can’t fit much in a carry-on !)

We drove to Big Sir one day, which was fabulous, but we were always sure to come back to our spot by sunset. We sat, talked, met people whose pets wanted to say hello as they took their evening walk…like “Wink” the one eyed white poodle mix and the tons of other pets people had. Looking back, I should have photographed them all, it was quite a collection of pet and pet lovers we came across.  The town is known for being pet-friendly and has numerous hotels, restaurants and retail stores allowing for pets!

Everyone we happened to come across had stated proudly that their pet was a “rescue” animal.

Times have changed, and now intelligent people are proud of their choice to rescue rather than fork out hundred to thousands of dollars for a “documented” pet. I love that we are evolving!

We even came across a sunset-on-the-beach wedding, in which a blonde knock out married an older gentlemen and we watched from out bench.

There were tons of great places to dine, get coffee or , in our case, bakeries…were were on vacation after all and everyone knows you can eat whatever you want on vacation!   We did decide we couldn’t keep eating like swine, so we opted for a big breakfast at our Hotel a couple of mornings, then nibbling small the rest of the day.

Our hotel was the Carmel Mission Inn and it was a perfect find!  Again, being the weekend, all the cottage styled places were booked up, and we paid at least $200 per night less just by staying a few more blocks from the old main street style area.

Check out the link above for great Carmel Mission Inn pictures!

The last day of the California Road Trip is approaching!
