We are just a week shy of being in the new house for a full year. Initially, I had a goal of being 90% complete with the remodel within 3 months. As the contractors were working, I was planning the space, deciding on electrical fixtures, marble, bathroom fixtures, which furniture to keep, what to chunk and what to buy immediately. With all that was going on, I had decided that my personal office could wait until I was prepared to deal with more work!
I really needed a refresh though, because I sometimes need a quiet place to think an operate my empire. (Totally joking, but your life is your empire and mine needed focus and reorganization!)
My empire consists of my fashion management job, my new cosmetics start up, <em>Bosscat Beauty, my little blog that you’re reading, and KS Tennis USA…a local tennis business that my husband runs.
My goal was to get my office cleaned out, reorganized and decorated before year’s end so I could start 2018 with better focus! This is my reveal!
I had decided to stick with the charcoal gray paint, since that’s the base color that runs through the entire house. The house is not huge so I didn’t want to break it up with a lot of different colors.
Although I tried to go with antique desks, dealing with independent dealers was a hassle that I didn’t have time for, so I opted for the white Sasha desk from Z’Gallerie. I thought it would go well with the Jaipur Furniture reclaimed wood and steel shelving unit I purchased. I feel in love with it the minute I saw it. I did not realize though, how incredibly heavy it was. It literally sat in the hallway for a week until I found some men to help me bring it into the room. I can never move away now, because it’s literally heavier than anything else I own and it would be too much work. The unit goes beautifully with the distressed look of the laminate flooring in the office.
My thought was that the white, modern french style of the Sasha Desk would add a bright pop to the room.
Although I plan to try and add a small futon so that I can use a custom brass wall piece to the wall behind it, for now I am done!
I kept my antique vanity as my makeup table, added a vintage wood table that used to belong to my mom as a corner area. I am trying really hard to keep it sparse and have some open space. That is hard for me because I love to layer! I did decide to utilize the shelves for some fun keepsakes, and forced myself to throw out a lot!
The pink train case at the top of the shelves, was actually a creme color a few weeks ago. It is an old train case that had belonged to my mom, and it has some of her things inside. I painted it pink so it could be enjoyed and not hidden. While I was at it, I decided to paint my mannequin pink as well, and quit hiding her in the closet! I don’t know why girls love mannequins but we do! I also kept my mom’s old college yearbook and some of my old child’s books…like Charlotte’s Webb…just as nostalgia. Old things remind you of where you came from. The little white Bible was the second one ever had as a child. I’d originally had a small pink one, but it got left on the patio and it was ruined in the rain….I cried for a week!
This room is my escape pod, so of course it needed a chandelier. Chandelier’s make everything better.
Literally, I have no excuse for not accomplishing everything that I’d like to this year. I’ve created my own little corner to drink coffee and plot my days in. I have a space that has some old things, some new, and it’s just a fun little spot for me to work from home!

I love doing makeup sessions. Â I really love taking photos for people. Â I have not ranted and vented much lately. Â I guess because I’ve been happy. Â Well, happy, busy and educating myself on world events. Â (OMG…do you realize everything going in in the universe right now?!?)Â Ugh, stressful!
I don’t want to quit my website, photography, makeup work or anything else I do that is fun…but I am spending a lot of time learning and studying in other areas. Â I find it amazing that there are very successful people in my world, that make a lot more money than I do and are seemingly more refined and accomplished, yet do not know or care anything about world affairs, government issues, do not have any idea who George Soros is and why they should care, what Brexit is and why it happened, what’s up with Putin or how the mainstream media candy coats reality at best, hides reality at worst and why we should care. Â I find that a majority of people are just zombies who do not want to be bothered with reality because it’s scary and inconvenient. If you don’t believe me, just ask someone who they are voting for and why…and most can’t articulate a real and meaningful answer with any depth or true knowledge of the facts they spew. Â Zombies I tell you!
Because of this, I am thinking of adding a news tab to the blog so that I can share things that I feel are interesting and important.  If you don’t care, then don’t click on the news link!  There are just so many interesting things going on that I’d like to share.
Back to the blog at hand…it’s titled #undefined.  There’s a lot of reasons for this.  This post stemmed from a long overdue photo shoot that TJ wanted.  She also wanted a fun and glammy makeup lesson.  I decided to do both, and combine the results for a mini blog.  The dress is one she purchased from Johnny Was Houston, which is also the company that I currently work for…so we were hitting a lot of issues here.  We are not really trying here to fit her into a defined fashion category or look here.  Personality flavors any fashion and sometimes takes it around the corner and down the street from where the original concept was born.  So with this session, we just let her own person shine through.  Never mind that she had on a boho dress.  You should wear a dress, it shouldn’t wear you.
I’d had kind of a weird and crappy week last week.  Basically, a person tried to define me based on appearance alone.  I realized that she wasn’t really judging my appearance, she was judging my appearance – and therefore my entire person, based on hers as being the guideline. This doesn’t work like that. My life is different than most women my age.  I’m fun, burden free, artistic, love nail polish and hair products but the most important things about me are not visible.  I am smart.  I don’t need to appear smart.  It’s not a concern of mine.  I am deep, caring, I have integrity, am multifaceted and these things are not definable by appearance alone.  I can carry on a semi intelligent conversation with anyone from anywhere in the world.  That’s not any less true because I may do it in a fabulous shoe.
That being said, if I were seeking employment at the front desk of a brain surgeon’s office, I would surely take more of a simple approach in how I present myself to the universe. Â Friends and I have this conversation all the time. All. The. Time. Â Everyone wants to make more money, yet they dress and present themselves on the daily as if they make $19,000 per year and then want to wonder why better opportunities do not come. Â So I understand bending and blending with the masses, I just don’t have to.
I got that from my mom. Â My friend’s mom’s would be rude and ask, “Why is your mom always dressed up?” or “Why is she always fixed up?”… as if there was something wrong with it. Â They were trying to define her based on their own appearance and lack of daily effort. Â She didn’t work, she was fancy because she knew my dad liked it and she enjoyed fashion, the end.
Which brings us back to TJ…the woman in the photos.  She is not a boho girl in the typical sense.  She works out, and drinks healthy smoothies.  She is independent.  Single.  Trying to grow a career and build her life.  She’s not exactly black or white. She is an extremely nice person who tries to help people to a fault, always putting herself last. I’ve never met anyone who even almost resembles her. She is a bit of a cat lady though…there are three. Of course you would never know any of that if you never took the time to know her.  Whoever she is going to end up becoming is not defined as of yet. Unspecified boundaries. Undefined  possibilities.

PRADA RED

Prada Saffiano Vernice Tote, Kendra Scott Necklace, Badgely Mischka earrings, Urban Decay Gwen Stafani lip color in Wonderland

Prada Sunglasses, Prada Venice Bag, Tiffany & Co bracelet
I look like I take myself so seriously. Â I really don’t. Â I have to explain how this post came about and you will see the humor.
I was going to Paris this month. Â I decided it would be a perfect time to get pictures done with my husband, in front of the Eiffel Tower. Â After researching, it became evident that I would need a red dress for the supposed photo opportunity, so I set out to have my own dress created. The dress is a wee bit different from my original design idea but I learned a lot! Â Grace Abbott was the seamstress I worked with to create the gown. Â I think next time, I will try to have an ultimate black dress made. That dress that makes anyone look good. One can dream.
I wasn’t counting on extreme wind and cold on the day we took time to actually do the photo session.  It was so cold and windy that you literally could barely hold your eyes open and when you did, freezing cold tears would fall out of them.  A see-thru red lace dress flapping in the wind was not going to work. Fortunately, I brought a back up. It was a 20 year old black dress that I keep around and let clients use for photo sessions.  But that’s another story and I’ll post the photos from that later….here we have the dress that I didn’t wear in Paris.  Instead, I wore her to our anniversary dinner here in Houston.
I wanted to share it on the blog, so here we are!  I am not sure what my new obsession is with red…I’ve always been a pink person.  I guess I’ve decided that red is a classic, fun, forever color pop. I recently invested in red shoes…which is hard to do!  It’s very hard to find a red shoe that is acceptable.  Red sneaker wedges, red stiletto nails, 5 million tubes of red lip stick and of course…this red Prada bag which I will use until I’m dead to justify the cost! I was lucky enough to purchase her in Paris as a souvenir. At least this is what I tell myself to help rationalize.
The red Gianni Bini heels are adorable! Â The name is Valentina, and I’m really hoping to wear them here and there, they are super comfortable.
All of my home revamps are finally finished so a lot of my spare time will be used for MUA jobs on the side of my Day Job working for Johnny Was, but I will still make time for my blog!  Why? I have worked in fashion and makeup for years. I still do freelance work here and there.  I love photography. Art. I have opinions. Strong ones from what I’m told.  Blogging is a creative outlet so that I don’t feel compressed by having to blend in with society and grind. My blog is a platform for what I am doing in life and what I aspire to do more of.

BLACK WINTER CASUAL
MEET JENNIFER…THE NEXT AMERICAN SUPER MODEL
THE NEXT AMERICAN SUPER MODEL
earrings from Cache, necklace from Chico’s, dress and jacket from Cache, shoes by Guess
…at least I think she should be. When I first ran into her, she reminded me of that story that you hear about Cindy Crawford getting discovered by a photographer when she was working a summer job in a corn field in Illinois.  This girl had on shorts and a t-shirt, black cowboy boots, and no makeup. She was towering over me at 5 feet and 10 inches, had a beautiful, natural tan, and was the sweetest girl ever, when I went up to introduce myself.
 Â
I immediately thought Cindy Crawford, and I knew I just had to do her makeup, hair, and style a photo shoot to compete with the best. (I’ll do a future blog post to show the make up colors and products I used to get the look.)
The thing is, I’ve worked in retail fashion for years and it would always interest me to see the models companies would choose from year to year.  One year, Cache chose a famous Italian actress as their model. That would have been wonderful were it not for the fact that Cache is not based in Italy, so it accomplished nothing to pay the actress all that money. Additionally, she was an actress…and by no means a model. To me, when a company is choosing a model to be their “face” it would make sense to pick someone that appears likable yet is inspiring. Â
Jennifer is a fun, but smart college girl here in Texas. Â She’s never modeled before and isn’t too big on makeup, she’s more of a sporty type and her hair is not colored, her nails are not acrylic… she’s just an all-American, natural girl.
I feel like my friend who found a two carat diamond in a crack on the sidewalk!  I love doing photography sessions and makeup so this was an incredible amount of fun…especially since she let me do whatever makeup I wanted and she wore what I asked!
I think that although initially Jennifer reminded me of Cindy Crawford, once the makeup was on and hair was done…Eva Mendez and Kathy Ireland came to mind in some of the shots.
Not only is she super tall, fit and photogenic… she’s a sweet girl next door type and I’m hoping she gets contracted by a top agency over the course of the next year.Â
I am a supporter of the good ol’ days…when everyone didn’t use hair extensions, surgical enhancements and way too much photo shop. Â I feel like she would be a good role model for younger girls.
And now I will climb down off of my soap box! I am, though, really happy to get to share my style shoot with everyone, and I will keep you posted on Jennifer, and make up tricks and tips from the shoot will be posted later!Â
 What do you think?
