On top of the all of the hats that I wear…I also have this little side gig called a full time job.  The stylists and managers that work with me are from a wide array of backgrounds and hear me when I tell you that each person brings their own personality with them in their handbag to work every day.

I am proud to say that we have a full time school teacher in our midst, who just enjoys the brand we represent, Johnny Was.  We also have another part time stylist that works full time at a doctor’s office. There are others among us with college degrees or makeup artist backgrounds, or both. Whatever the case may be, we all basically feel like we live together.  I guess that’s because we actually do. We spend 8 hours a day together which is probably more time than I see my husband.

On this day, I was trying to up the amp on a typical mandatory store meeting.  The deal was that we would do a mini photo session before the meeting for fun.

There is a really cool blank white wall, outside our store in Highland Village, that bloggers come by weekly to use as a make shift “studio” because the lighting is perfect most any time of day.  It’s like trying to herd cats, to get more than 3 people to look acceptable in a photo, but we had fun and it was something different to do.

I always tell young people that if you can do retail for any length of time, it will prepare you for absolutely anything the world has to throw at you in the future.  No matter where you work in the future, there will be challenging personalities in the workplace. Integrity and basic sanity are my top two prerequisites for hiring.  Insanity is far too disruptive in the workplace and you have to be able to get along in order to be relatively happy and productive at work. Integrity is everything.  If a person is the most intelligent being on the planet yet holds no integrity…what good are they? Everything else can be taught, but I can’t force integrity into a person. That was your parent’s job.

In the past, I’ve gone through spells of being self employed and working from home.  I actually missed being at a job and having work people. For the past year, these have been my work people. My days consist of making sure Fetus Randy’s mom doesn’t do any heavy lifting, sharing the joy in Haley’s engagement (and big ass ring) , wondering if Miranda’s cold is going to get us all sick,  and blending everyone’s life together through holidays, birthdays, weddings, deaths, vacations etc and keeping it real about why we are all here and what we are expected to do. Oh, and hell no…you can’t be off every Saturday. Are you insane ?

The ladies all decided that it was OK for them to star in my blog. Well, as long as they looked good. I thought it would be fun to show a peek into who I spend my days with. This is our #workflow.

Although mostly I have ditched the habit of rambling (well, on the fashion posts anyway) I must be lonely because I feel the need.

I feel the need to apologize for my imperfect figure, for the fact that I have red random nails, and that I should probably airbrush myself and not wear so much jewelry.

I had the weekend off and it was an emotionally trying  3 day weekend for me so on this day I threw myself together after whipping up a batch of crawfish etouffee for an early dinner.  We decided to go run some errands which turned into going out for a beer on the water way, which turned into a second dinner that night with pizza which turned into going out for music and another drink….which turned into Mr Sjoberg eating AGAIN…this time a burger and fries. His eating abilities amaze me.  He will deny these eating events happened but I took photos for proof. He’s not fat, he’s a machine that goes and goes and burns more calories in his sleep that I ever could on a treadmill. It’s like sleeping next to a furnace at night.

We had a random weekend night doing nothing fancy. Bad hair and chambray. I am typically NOT a chambray type but I’m in love with this top in my effort to embrace some level of casualness.

We were home by 11pm and our dogs (whose bedtime is a strick 10pm) were looking at us with “Where the hell have you been, it’s past our bedtime?” looks on their faces. I think my husband was trying to get me out of my blah mood, which is another thing I apologize for…the never smiling thing.  The deal with that, is that I hate getting my photo taken. Hate. What I do like is the fashion, the artistry, the editing and it is cool if a shot comes out good, but it’s all the behind the scenes things that I like.  A new friend saw my Instagram account, and immediately was left with the impression that I like myself…but the word narcissistic was used. Ugh.  As makeup artists know…it’s generally about the product and the skill more than “look at me, aren’t I fabulous?”

I am done with my blue rant! This was my casual day and I wanted to share my thoughts!

1.  CORONADO ISLAND VIEW OF SAN DIEGO

2. INSTAGRAM LOVE
I had to include this one of myself with little mean Bella, because she looks sweet and this picture got the most likes            on Instagram  for November!
eggnog and crown, holidays

3. EGGNOG and JACK

Fuzzy phone pictures are sometimes the best!  After putting up the tree, I made us an eggnog and Jack drink and we sat in front of the tree, watched a movie and relaxed!  Good times!

Jazzy

4. INSTAJAZZY

I caught Jazzy with a big, crazy smile, right after her new haircut! LOVE!

SIX SHOTS: MARCH 2014

SIX SHOTS

march, two thousand and fourteen

Houston bloggers, The Woodlands, Photography, Luxor Living and Style, fashion blogger, photo shoot Galveston beach, black feathers, model

1.  BLACK ANGEL SHOOT

This entire month’s top six shots all come from a few trips to the beach.  The shoots with Jennifer went well, but click the picture above to see my favorite shots with her!

Guess, photo shoot in Houston, Texas girl, American girl, beach girl, Luxor Living and Style, photography in The Woodlands

2.  AMERICAN GIRL SHOOT

The versatility of her look makes it fun to try new things.  Click the picture above to see the rest of this shoot!

3.  BEACH SHOOT

….and then there’s bikini time.  In trying to keep it clean, we tried to stick to her sporty girl nature. Being glamorous while in bikini-state, and anonymous onlookers are gawking, was not making it easy for her! I learned a lot here.  You’ve got to take your time and not rush. And the damn sun! Never in the right direction!

4.  ANONYMOUS SURFER GUY

Anonymous surfer guy came out on a day I went to the beach for a picnic with my husband and Jazzy and Bella.  We get there, and the waves were choppy, it was dark and wet with black clouds over head.  I always appreciate a rebel, so I snapped this surfer who looks like he’s supposed to be behind the desk of the local insurance office.  He clearly ran away from work a few hours early to hit the very rare wave action.

5.  ANONYMOUS BEACH BIRDS

The birds were going crazy for what was left of our family picnic and the crazy, dark waters and winds were surreal. It was an adventurous feeling in the air.  Not quite the beautiful, sunny picnic weather I was planning on. Imperfectly perfect.

6.  BEACH INSTAGRAM

So Instagram and camera phones DO have their place! These were phone shots from that day, and while they are not exactlyof Canon quality, they collectively merge as one to highlight our day! everything doesn’t make it to my Instagram, and Instagram doesn’t make it to the blog, but I wanted to share it here!
