5 Things I Think I Need Right Now…

Wow! Where have these been? Chic new styles are in from Old Gringo! The Carla is a 6″ shaft genuine leather boot featuring a beautiful multi color floral embroidery with side zip and rounded toe. I love these paired with either my favorite jeans or tunic dresses for a trendy, boho – country look! I am thinking I could get away with these booties for Spring or Summer as well as Fall. That’s my thing…I love things I can wear universally since the weather is mild-ish in Texas!

The ONTHEGO bag from Louis Vuitton is sold out in the brown color…but I love her! I will be on the lookout, and if we go to Italy this year as planned, I may try to pick one up as a vacation souvenir…or at least that’s how I would justify purchasing it.

I am trying to spend less on common purchases to work towards my inner self agreeing that more expensive purchases are rationalized. I need her in my life.

If you know meat all, then you would know that I have wanted a chicken coup for quite some time! My main reason for the delay has been that we moved to an area with more strict of an HOA so chickens are not actually allowed. While there was a bill in Texas last year, to attempt to override the bans that HOAs place on homeowners, in regard to chickens…it still has not passed.

I would have to build my chicken empire and then have to get rid of them due to HOA Nazis. I do understand though, that it should be looked at as a case by case issue. Some people would never clean up after their chickens, or would have makeshift chicken coups built out of crates or something. I would like to hope that my chickenry (my word) will be so fabulous, that I will rise above scrutiny. We will see if I take the plunge or not!

Gardening is my jam! I have been planting tomatoes and peppers and whatnot here and there, but I need more room! I currently have a random concrete slab that the previous owners installed for whatever reason. It’s ugly, too close to the house and recently I thought of an idea for it!

A raised garden area would be perfect! There is nothing better than needing green onions for something I am cooking, and being able to go outside and cut some off of my onion patch. With a bit more work, maybe I could learn to be a more responsible, disciplined vegetable gardener!

I have had a huge composting area for a few years now and the soil is absolutely magical! f I have a plant that is near death, I can stick in my compost area and it gets brought back to life very quickly!

Since I did my remodel on our current house, I have wanted to add a mirrored wall with antiqued glass to the dining area much like what they have done above. At the time, the price quotes I was getting were crazy high, so I decided to spend money elsewhere because a glass wall is easy to have installed after move in. Later, I considered wallpaper but my focus is back on the antiqued mirror look.

I designed the house around the concept of a modern Versailles type of look, so the mirror fits in with my original idea. There is also the point that the house is not super large, so mirrors help to give the illusion of a larger room.

There are so many ideas out there for mirrors but the look above is my final inspiration. I will share if I get it done this year! You can see my current dining room here.

These are my top 5 things I am obsessing over right now…as you can see, a little bit of everything is involved…a little fashion, a bit of nature and some home decor!

It has been a minute since I’ve thrown up a blog post! I see where everyone is already putting up their Christmas decorations and wearing holiday outfits and it makes a person feel so behind and inadequate!

I decided to jump in with my new red tunic from Johnny Was, red glasses from America’s best and other accessories and be fun and red-based!

We took a quick trip recently to Wyoming and I had all of these super winterized outfit posts planned but we just couldn’t pull it off! The problem was that I got really bloated and ill with altitude sickness! My rings were cutting into my hands, my feet were swelling out of my shoes, my nose was bleeding 50% of the time and my face looked like a bowling ball. (Yes, a lot more than usual.) I won’t go into the headaches and heart palpitations or the severe pain brought on by the altitude. I smiled through it so that I wouldn’t ruin my husband’s trip.

My point is…there were no outfit posts! I try to power through a lot of things but it was to the point that I was secretly looking for the closest hospitals without him knowing! (My next post will be a Wyoming road trip post, because it was a beautiful American #glamping travel experience sans the nosebleeds and blood pressure raising near death experience!)

In the meantime, the holidays are upon us and it is my intent to have the most relaxing, simple holiday season possible! We are blessed with our simple life, and we have decided to take more time for self care and rest through the upcoming season. My world is going to be a no pressure zone this holiday season and I will wear red and sparkles and be present in the moment!

It’s a wonderful time of year because the humidity is gone, the air is crisp and life is worth living again! This was a fabulous embroidered kimono jacket that I got months ago. The tunic dress doesn’t really match match but that is by design! I have a tendency to over match so this is me being understated. No, really.

The cut on this jacket is a classic so I can probably wear it at 70. Until then, it’s just a fun embroidered item to throw on and have fun with!

The booties from Freebirds Stores are my newest piece of rebellion wear. They are not a boot but not a sandal yet not a heel but not a flat. Love the nonconformist attitude!

I am truly looking forward to the holiday season more than ever! With everything going on in the world and politically speaking – if you know what I mean! These days you’ve got to grab a little joy wherever you can get it! My circle is getting smaller and smaller as it is growing increasingly difficult to have real, deep friendships with people who have any level of understanding as to the world stage. People do not read or research anything anymore. They mostly parrot what they hear others say. It’s a bit depressing. I recently met a young guy at a car rental place, and he stated, “It’s getting hard to know who you can talk to about real things anymore. Nobody wants to learn how I make my money, they just want me to give them some of it.” The kid was 26 and had made a lot of money in Lightcoin and such. ( Yes he showed me his trading balances and accounts on his phone.) He based his investing on Biblical prophecy and we shared the same view points about most everything. When I meet someone like this I think, wow, someone I can actually talk to! It’s rare and special. In the meantime, clothes and fun stuff take the mind off of some of the harsh realities we face today so I will just stay over here in my corner, mind my own business and keep my harsh but true political and spiritual viewpoints to myself! Oh, and blog some really cute outfits. There’s that.

Happy Place

Gardening is so much fun to me! This Sunday we went to pick up more plans for the yard because although planting season is not during 95 degree days…plant stores have a lot of things at 70% off! The plant store is my happy place. I love wandering around and dreaming of the possibilities. Great landscaping can make an average home amazing! Landscaping is everything. I wish all of my neighbors understood this. When I see a messy yard, it makes me wonder what the inside of the home looks like.

I literally felt sad for a skinny, crooked Crepe Myrtle tree that was laying on the concrete. She was unable to stand upright because she was growing crooked in her pot. She was 6 feet tall, but only $9.00 and was in the very back with the other uglies. I felt so sorry for her, that I brought her home and named her Gertrude. For the past two weeks, we refer to her as Gertrude and share in the daily watering. You really should not plant anything when it’s 4,000 degrees outside, but it’s a bit shady in the spot I chose and decided to risk it. Gertrude is now part of the family and we hope she makes it!

I do not think I will even be done with fixing up my yard. It’s too big and my standards are too high. My personal goal is to eventually not be able to see any fence! It’s rough because the plants that are the most hardy and grow the fastest, are typically also the most boring! I think moving forward, I need to focus on one area at a time. Oh, and there is my outfit.

My Sunday outfit consisted of a Biya top and my funky new Freebird booties. To me, the Biya top is a t-shirt. A fancy one. Other people would consider a top that nice to be inappropriate for garden shopping, but there was to be brunch involved as well. It’s not like I was going to plant them in that top. (Digging the actual hole is my husband’s job.) I am simply the landscape architect.

My husband is not a huge fan of my rebellious booties, but that’s ok. 🙂

Shifting Into Fall

I love the fact that summer is about to be over. Bright colors are fun but I am looking forward to warmer colors, lush velvets and boots! Obviously I can’t whip out the Biya sweaters just yet but the shift to fall is exciting. I have quite a few mesh dresses from Johnny Was because they are a year round thing that I love to wear.

In the winter, it’s a great dress to layer with heavier sweater or jacket and the embroidered detail peeks out of the front behind any jacket and adds a girly, delicate touch.

My husband loves this dress so much that he asked me to wear it to brunch on this day and I am trying to add in little blog posts wherever I can as free time permits!
