Let’s chat about my day.  It is actually a “day off.” However, I never really take much of a day off, instead there are usually a few hours within a day off that we claim as our own.

The morning starts of with Pastor John Hagee, who was on fire today on the television.  We watch him every morning when possible to jump start our day. Actually, it was a fabulous sermon, which touched on all the issues of today’s concerns.

After being emotionally jump started by our tv minister, he headed to his appointment, I got ready and went to mine, before meeting for lunch near Old Town Spring.

While waiting for him…I finally got to go inside a little cupcake place there named Cake Swirl.  I did this because I have taken it upon myself to run my own personal cupcake quality control division of the universe.

I bought two, a red velvet and a chocolate peanut butter which both still sit in the box, waiting for my approval after dinner tonight!

We went on to a casual lunch, with turned into a non casual, business discussion.  I guess we look like “bar people” because this is the second time they have seated us in the bar area of this particular restaurant. It was disturbing seeing a group of people in their 60’s getting hammered and loud in the middle of the day, and it became hard to hear each other, as we debated the finer points of SEO, real estate and tennis.

On a brighter note, I am enjoying being budget-aware this season, reusing things from last year, and mixing with a few new and fun things to change up the old!

shoes by Carlos Santana seen here

The Carlos Santana shoes are from last season (scandal!) but they didn’t get too much play last year, so they are still a great suede look for this season.

The Juicy bag was actually free, since I’d purchased a couple of bottles of the Viva La Juicy Noirperfume. I finally got to use it today, and in my mind anyway, it sort of replaces the hot pink Michael Kors Hamilton that I refrained from purchasing a few months ago. One of the bottles of perfume is actually being given away to one lucky follower, on October 31, 2013, in case you are interested! See details here!

I actually have some eye shadow palettes I also plan on using for Giveaways in the future, as well as other things, so join in the fun and Follow from one of the methods on the About page.

BALM CHICKY ROCKS ON

balm chicky, balm for lips, best lip balm, Luxor Living and Style

I was so excited to receive my samples of BalmChicky Balm Balm in the mail!  I didn’t know what exactly the company was about, but the name was fun so I’d waited with anticipation!

I work in cosmetics, where people come in to buy $22.00 tubes of lip conditioner that has no flavor or scent, which I never got all the fuss over that.

Oh but this is different!  The tube is wider than normal, the balm is creamier than normal, it comes in great flavors with light scent! I’ve tried it on top of my lip color, as well as below…just to see how it worked and it was fine either way.

I got the Wild Mountain Honey, Juicy Melons and Sweet Baby Ginger…although there are more flavors to choose from shown here.

My husband loves lip balm since he’s out in the heat all day on the court with the tennis business, so I decided to be unselfish and gave him a tube and he absolutely loves this stuff.

Another fun thing about this balm is the friend end, which is for those annoying times that you have a dry lipped friend asking to borrow your lip product!

Check out this new company’s fun site and story, and although it’s coming to a store near you soon…you can order it on line here!

BALM CHICKY UPDATE:

I just got notice of something so exciting for my friends at BALM CHICKY!  They are going to be featured on the February 3rd edition of one of our favorite shows…SHARK TANK on ABC!!!!  Let’s watch and cheer them on!

As for us, I just had to part with my last tube of healing BALM CHICKY in GINGER because Ken’s lips are always out in the elements on the tennis court and he’s constantly asking for lip balm! He loves this brand and finds it very soothing.

In the meantime, learn more about BALM CHICKY and check out their SHARK TANK SPECIALS !

SPECIAL DATE

This year, I asked to go to San Antonio during my birthday weekend.  Nothing tremendous, but we both had really wanted to visit a church in San Antonio, so I’d figured this was a way to make it finally happen.

This low key celebration was the absolute best time ever!  After spending the night on the San Antonio River Walk, we woke early to make it 20 minutes away to church.  The church service was amazing, and actually, this one service was more powerful than the last 10 years all put together of others.

To top it off, we decided on the spur of the moment to go to lunch at the “really high spinny place,”   otherwise known as the Chart House Restaurant in the Tower of Americas building.

The view of San Antonio was amazing, romantic, lovely and the food was fabulous.  We were relaxed and happy as the restaurant view changed ever so slowly as the dome circled.  San Antonio was my birthplace, so it was nice to think of years past and how things have changed. Some good, some bad.  I constantly think of time I’d wasted in the past trying to help people that were beyond repair.  Time is so important. Money and gold are nothing without time, but time can be everything without money or gold.

As the clock refuses to quit ticking away, chipping at our time banks, I resolve that last year was a good year – especially comparatively speaking, and this one will be even better.  That being stated, it occurs to me that good years do not happen by accident, but by design.  An intentional output of effort and planning.

So, was this post a fashion post? A food post? A travel post? A little bit of everything really.  A blog post. I think that’s what originally began the term of “blog.”  A “blah- log” of events.  I’m not entirely in love with my outfit, but it’s really what I wore, so there!

I look forward to this new year.  I look forward to applying myself in work and business as well as relationships and fun!

TOP TWELVE SHOTS OF THE YEAR 2014

I welcome the year 2015 with open arms, but here are my top 12 picks for Shots of The Year from the blog!  Some are from products that sponsored me, and some of other people I got to shoot.  It’s fun to look back over the past year and gather some top shots.  2014 went by so fast, and in looking back, I see why… I was busy!  I look forward to challenging myself this next year!

It was something totally new to try, and I had a blast doing last year’s Valentine Boudoir Shoot. The girls were fun and beautiful.  It’s not trashy… more fun and flirty than anything, but it was fun working out shots for the girls.  Out of all photos, I love this one the best.  The girl is a beautiful, edgy rebel, business woman and mom.  I loved the way this turned out.

3. BLACK FEATHERED ANGEL

This is a girl I ran into one night while out with my husband.  We became friends and I was dying to do some portfolio shots for the aspiring actress.  On this shoot, we went to Galveston Beach, (although we joked about saying it was some exotic destination in the Carribbean) and we laughed so hard as we tried different shots. Imagine this tall, beautiful girl in full makeup and long black gown, on the edge of a jettie, as the waves crashed in.  Imagine the onlookers. Too funny. The rest of the pictures can be seen here. This was a great day!

I’ve always loved the Guess advertising campaigns.  This was a spin on the Texas girl look.  This is one of my favorite shots from that day with her. See the rest here, on the American Girl blog post.

I did a review for Younique 3D Fiber Lashes.  This was one of the shots from the post that came out.  I mean, how do you really take a mascara photo anyway?  My vanity area was new, and it’s where I spend every morning getting ready, playing with makeup and trying new things.

8. LA JOLLA

We took a trip to San Diego this year.  We wanted to return, since we had been the previous year.  I packed terribly.  I ended up buying a cool hat there, while we were shopping, and thus created a La Jolla outfit post out of scraps!  We stayed at La Valencia hotel, right on the Cove at La Jolla… and had an amazing time.  I love this shot that Ken took because it’s real.  It’s me. My clothes. My life.  I love that he lets me be kooky and fun.  Good times!

10. HOLIDAY RIVER WALK

In December, we went to San Antonio to attend a church service by one of our favorite pastors, and stayed on the San Antonio River Walk.  It was my birthday, and Christmas lights were still up.  I took photos in order to create a Monet look and love the way they all turned out!

I was fortunate enough to make a new friend this year, when Angel Blanchard was referred to me by a friend, to recreate her hair salon web site, Angels Hair Designs.  She is a color and cut specialist in the Houston Galleria area, and also does extensions as well.  She did my hair recently as well.  Angel also is a jewelry designer, and is wearing some of her custom candy pieces in this shot! She does cuts for men as well!

One of my functions is that I work in Cosmetics and Fragrances.  I do makeup.  If you know anyone who does makeup, then you know we love You Tube Videos!  Everyone would love to try and make a video at least once, so I finally did a full You Tube presentation called GLAMMY GLAM in 19 MINUTES.  This shot was of the finished product after the video tutorial was made.  Making videos is so fun, but it’s more work than you think!  Check out my Channel here.

My husband is not a huge fan of long road trips. In light of this, when he asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday, I decided to abuse the opportunity at hand and request a San Antonio road trip!

I am a Christian.  This does not mean that I see myself as a “Christ-like” being in any way… it simply means that I am a believer in God the Father and his son Jesus Christ, his purpose, the return and basically I try not to be evil because of such beliefs.  Sometimes I get angry, I occasionally curse, but I do try really hard to forgive mean, hateful, crappy people. I study my Bible, I do not believe in man made religion, only Bible based, non-denominational churches.

I state all of the above only to say that my road trip request to San Antonio was for the purpose of visiting John Hagee’s Cornerstone Church with my husband.  Twenty-five years ago, I remember that my Granny always had Hagee preaching on her TV when I would go visit, and my husband began watching him with me about 7 years ago.  It’s long been a morning tradition with us to watch Pastor Hagee’s  early morning weekday sermons on television  as we’re getting ready for work, and we always planned on going together, in person…so this was my chance to make it happen!

We ended up deciding to stay at a Hotel on the river walk, so we could go to dinner and go hear some music the night before.

A cold front blew in that afternoon, and the temperature dropped to below 40 degrees.  I grabbed my new hat purchased while in San Diego, so as to not be bothered with wet weather and wind blown hair. The coat from Cache, is the warmest one I own, and I grabbed it as a last minute thought when running out the door.  It came in very handy.  My boots were high and very warm, so I thought it would be fun to wear deep purple pleather shorts, with a turtle necked sweater for added warmth.  (Yes, I am a rebel at heart, not a joiner, not much of a follower.  It’s liberating.  I do what I want.) So this was my kooky, fun, warm, birthday outfit. It’s who I am.

Our hotel was a recent remodel, located on the end, and the idea is to grab a taxi boat, to take down to the restaurant and music area of the river.  It was a pleasant surprise to see a river boat going by our window the minute we got to our room. (I will include a future post on our hotel in the travel section of the site soon.)

After a fabulous dinner, we went to enjoy some music before catching a $5 taxi ride back to the hotel.   Throughout the night, my husband was patient with me in the freezing cold, as I kept stopping to snap just the right photos of the river walk with different settings on my camera.    I love the monet-like, painted look of some of my shots.  We were so excited about going to church the next morning, that drinking and dancing the night away wasn’t really where our hearts were at, so we were not out very late, and headed back to the hotel by 11pm.  (My how things have changed.)

I just have to share this part, because it’s a new year, and I’m keepin’ it real. I’m saying what I think, and I’m not going to suppress my opinions and display a false, neutral view point om issues I feel strongly about. So…

When we got back to the hotel, my husband clicks on the TV… which was on the Showtime channel.  Help me Jesus…there was a 63 year old woman, correction – there was a completely naked 63 year old woman on the TV, explaining why she was using a young, male gigolo for sexual companionship and activity.  OH MY.  She almost made it sound sensible. Rational.  However, the very graphic nude 63 year old body was too much for my husband and I to bear, so as the next scene was the woman and her gigolo kissing in the shower, my husband changed the channel.

Ugh. It’s official.  Society has fallen.  I don’t want to see my own naked body in broad daylight on Showtime, so why would I want to see anyone else’s? It was creepy, but it’s our fabulous, new dirty world.

The next morning, we were excited to go to church, hear Pastor John Hagee and his son Matthew Hagee preach the strongest Biblical message I’ve ever heard.  It was an honor to get to attend service and praise God in the presence of such strong leaders.

Church was followed by a wonderful and romantic brunch, and this was literally the best birthday I’ve ever had. Peaceful. Low-key. Meaningful and deep.  Oh, and food!
