1.  BLACK ANGEL SHOOT

This entire month’s top six shots all come from a few trips to the beach.  The shoots with Jennifer went well, but click the picture above to see my favorite shots with her!

The versatility of her look makes it fun to try new things.  Click the picture above to see the rest of this shoot!

3.  BEACH SHOOT

….and then there’s bikini time.  In trying to keep it clean, we tried to stick to her sporty girl nature. Being glamorous while in bikini-state, and anonymous onlookers are gawking, was not making it easy for her! I learned a lot here.  You’ve got to take your time and not rush. And the damn sun! Never in the right direction!

4.  ANONYMOUS SURFER GUY

Anonymous surfer guy came out on a day I went to the beach for a picnic with my husband and Jazzy and Bella.  We get there, and the waves were choppy, it was dark and wet with black clouds over head.  I always appreciate a rebel, so I snapped this surfer who looks like he’s supposed to be behind the desk of the local insurance office.  He clearly ran away from work a few hours early to hit the very rare wave action.

5.  ANONYMOUS BEACH BIRDS

The birds were going crazy for what was left of our family picnic and the crazy, dark waters and winds were surreal. It was an adventurous feeling in the air.  Not quite the beautiful, sunny picnic weather I was planning on. Imperfectly perfect.

6.  BEACH INSTAGRAM

So Instagram and camera phones DO have their place! These were phone shots from that day, and while they are not exactlyof Canon quality, they collectively merge as one to highlight our day! everything doesn’t make it to my Instagram, and Instagram doesn’t make it to the blog, but I wanted to share it here!

SUPER GLAM for BIKINI SEASON

Ready or not, bikini season is upon us once again. To celebrate, I am sharing a fun beach shoot I did with an aspiring model/actress who wanted more photos for her portfolio. More photos can be seen on the PHOTOGRAPHY  page of this site!

Of course, I could not help myself from choosing a sparkling gold sequined bikini top for Jennifer.  I wanted a glammy shoot for her. I just can’t help myself!

I learned a lot during this shoot, like wow, it’s really hard to see through the screen when the sun is beating down on you. Also, naked people are hard to shoot, due to the added areas of bodily detail that are visible.

Either way, we both learned and had fun.  As far as the make up artistry, the plan was always to keep the same simple make up from the other shoots, with a bold, sculpted lip for something a bit retro.

Although her look is very versatile, she reminds me of all the model greats from years ago before women’s bodies were airbrushed down to nothing or filtered to an unattainable perfection.

As we were talking at one point, I asked her if she was one of those people who never even had a cavity…she said no, she had a few in the past, at which point I exclaimed, “Good! At least something is wrong with you!” And we laughed!

Since I am against mainstream insanity, I feel these pictures turned out as I’d hoped. Real  beauty. Not too glossy.  Her other style shoots are here, here and here!

An additional measure I used before deciding to post, is that 99% of my female friends do not like these photos, however, every single one of the men I showed them to loves them.

I couldn’t imagine having to let someone throw me a bikini, say, “Here, put this on,” and start snapping photos. That’s brave, and she did fabulous.

Jennifer is graduating from college with a Psychology degree in a few months, and then devoting her spare time to pursuing acting and modeling. She is available for bookings. (contact for questions)

AMERICAN GIRL

american Girl, Modeling in Houston, Luxor Living and Style, Photography in The Woodlands, Galveston beach, super model, country girl, Houston girl,

Hi everyone!  I am excited to share just a few of the shots from a beach shoot I did last week.

When a person needs head shots, for their acting or modeling portfolio or registry with agents, they need to show different looks.  This is one I call, American Girl.  Actually, this is the closest representation of what Jennifer looked like when I first met her and decided that she could easily be America’s next top Super Model. (If you don’t believe me, you will after seeing her beach bikini shots!)

She reminds me of the models from the 90’s such as Cindy Crawford or Kathy Ireland.  Even Eva Mendez in some other shots.  She’s super tall and fabulous and makes me feel short and inadequate but I like her so much!

I think you can’t get more American than western boots, daisy dukes, a tank top and cowboy hat…dressed up, of course with a $30 tube of Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy lip stick in the color Envious.

I was kind of going for the old school Guess girl look from back in the day. This shoot kind of proves that the best accessory is natural beauty…when at all possible!

We’ve done other projects together, but this day was very low key and fun, and I hope to do more and Jennifer is hoping to land some modeling and acting jobs as well in the near future.

BLACK FEATHERED ANGEL

This week I had the opportunity to do a full shoot in which I got to style, do the make up and photograph some photos for Jennifer’s acting/modeling portfolio.

I wanted to share some of the photos here on the blog because I absolutely had a blast spending the day together and working on her shots!

Although I work in cosmetics, as well as own my own Apartment Locating business in Houston, I also enjoy doing freelance makeup and small shoots here and there. It’s a passion.

I decided to go for a more retro look this time, and used the new line of lip colors by Estee Lauder, Pure Envy, to give her that bold, sculpted lip look. I had used a nude lip in previous shots, shown here.

The black feathered dress I used is a special vintage find that I own and it waits patiently in my closet for events such as this!  I use this fact to illustrate my continual point, in that fashion doesn’t have to kill your finances.  I actually bought it years ago. I’d taken over as District Manager for a chain of fashion stores in Houston, and they had decided to close out their formal collection, so I purchased this at a total steal although at the time I’d had no place to where it to!

I would almost be upset at how wonderful it looks on Jennifer, but she’s such an angel and so fabulous that it’s impossible to be upset with her for being 5’10 and gorgeous! And young. And smart.

I’ve always been so interested in advertising and how exactly people a select few work their way up into ad positions with retailers.  I once worked for a US company that kept making odd choices in the catalog models and styles and sales began to suffer with each poor decision.

Once, they hired an actress from another country to be our model.  The problem was, they paid her a lot of money, but 98% of our demographic didn’t even know who she was so the large salary spent accomplished nothing.  I always felt it would be a better decision to find a fabulous unknown, and develop her and your company image simultaneously. If your product is great and your catalog is great, do you need a multi million dollar face?

Anyway, there will be other themed pictures from different parts of the shoot shared in the future here! What are your thoughts?

PERFUME HAUL

Obsession, perfume, fragrance blog, Shalimar, Angel, Thierry Mugler, perfume , haul, Luxor Living and Style, Texas Top Style Blog, over 40 blogger,

I should actually have named this blog post, Cheap Bitch… but I refrained.  While it would appear as if I am greedy and self centered, which is only partially true… it is actually the desire to save money in the future that caused me to spend it in the here and now.

I realized that after Christmas was actually a really great time to get more bang for your buck, and this held true in the area of fragrance. Beloved fragrance.    For those of use who believe that great fragrance is a necessity  and a tool to help you glide through every day life…we love a great designer fragrance however,I know of no one who actually loves paying for it. This would include me.  In light of this, I found a way to get tons of my favorite fragrances on the cheap.

Some of my top fragrance loves are Shalimar, Obsession, Angel and Poison.  At Christmas,  the fragrance companies send out all the goodies to the fragrance counters at your local department stores.  The fragrance sales people make commission, so they are motivated if you are going to make a big sale.  The vendors with each individual company are also sometimes there with goodies and extras in hopes of boosting sales.  December and January are great times to buy.  There are usually great sets available at this time, as well as extra bonus gifts.

For example, I was able to purchase an Angel set , which also had a silver bracelet thrown in for good measure, and this was on top of the extra goodie box that was available with an Angel purchase.

Then, in January, I’d found some Shalimar sets that were on sale for 50% off because it didn’t sell as well in some parts of town as it probably did in other locations.   Even though I’d already purchased a large bottle a week or so earlier, which came with bonus items, I still decided to invest in my fragrance future by getting two more of the sets because with the extra sets came extra lotions as well as an extra sprayer in each box!

I probably have about two years of perfumes at this point because I got so much more for my money.

It’s a new me, and I’m trying very hard to never pay full price for anything ever again!

PURE SPECULATION SERIES: THE STRIPPER AND THE BEEFCAKE

GLASSES1
Some of  the things I do for a living cause me to spend a lot of time in front of the computer. I do social media work in my spare time for some small businesses, including our own.  For months, it’s felt as if I’ve not had a full day off and I feel pressure if I waste a day and accomplish nothing.  I suppose I figure I blew off enough time along life’s way so it’s very hard for me to relax.

Because of this, even though I’d cooked at home while on the computer all day…I’d had enough of being locked up in the house, my husband was at work, so I decided to meet a friend for a margarita and appetizer at a neighborhood Mexican food restaurant.  Of course, after I get there, she got a better offer and ditched me.  Being an adult, I decided I could sit alone with my thoughts and people watch for 30 minutes or so.
It was nice to get out, but as I began to look at the menu, two people came and sat at the bar next to me.

I’d initially assumed they were together, so I offered to move so they could sit together, at which point the young woman tells me she is alone, and actually doesn’t know the man who came in and sat on the other side of me.

I was not in the mood to chit chat with strangers, so I kept staring at my phone and tinkering with it.  Oh but wow…she wouldn’t stop talking to herself, me, and the guy next to me.
He was actually kind of big and hot…let’s called him “Beefcake Guy.”  He kept looking at me confused, wondering why she kept talking to him.  This prompted him to look at me, as if she was my personal sidekick and responsibility.  He was begging me with his eyes to get her to stop talking.  So I explained that I didn’t know her either.  She continued talking with us as if we did  know her.

The Stripper and The Beefcake, Luxor Living and Style, Pure Speculation Series on Love

This girl looked to be about 25, had jet black dyed hair, a solid country twang in her voice, and a tiny hole in her face where a facial piercing should be.  She had a mean, hard look but as I heard her speak, I realized she was just lonely, sweet, and very happy and was out celebrating alone because she was excited over getting a new job “her first one that didn’t involve stripping.”

The handsome “beefcake” guy and I looked at each other in amazement that this girl had no filter, so we gave up on keeping up our invisible wall and entered into a full blown conversation with her.

If you knew me personally, you’d know that I love doing my own social research and often times I quiz people I meet on the topic of their life.  It’s interesting to me to see what people think, how they got to where they are, and what is there to be learned from each person’s experience. I can’t help it.  I usually leave a conversation with people being amazed that they told me everything and that I bothered to ask them about themselves in the first place.

After leaving a conversation with an individual, whether their personal life experience has been good or bad, I find there’s always something to be learned. Always. You can learn more from people’s mistakes than from their accomplishments often times.

“Stripper Girl” was so excited about her new little job at an Optician’s office, that she was buying herself shots left and right.  The drinks were called a “Brain Hemorrhage.”  Classy.

Of course I had to ask her how she got into stripping in the first place. She was more than happy to tell her tale and got pretty graphic over the next hour while enlightening me on the low points of stripper life.
She was low on cash years earlier, and her rent was due.  She was talking to her mother about her financial crisis, so her mom told her that stripping was the only way to get quick cash.  It turned out that her mother and grandmother had both been strippers.  She had no father figure.  He dad was a distant memory from her childhood.  This prompted me to ask her about boyfriends, and of course her expectations of men were so low from growing up and watching her mom and grandmother… so all of her boyfriends output was low.  She accepted bad behavior not being aware that she should expect more.

The girl was very clear on how she got to where she was and realized that her upbringing had a negative impact on her life.  She now had a small child to take care of, a crappy string of boyfriends who lived off of her and was trying to build a new life.  She explained in detail how much she hated stripping and the men she would meet, but felt financially compelled to continue the lifestyle. She explained what I’d always thought to be true…the big money is always made in the back rooms.  She went into detail.

The break came for her, when her distant father passed away 6 months prior, leaving her as the beneficiary of his life insurance policy, which put $75,000 in her hand.  She paid cash for a mobile home, quit stripping and feels like she’s on her way to a brighter path. I found an opportunity to be encouraging to my fellow woman although to be honest, there comes a point where your upbringing will hold you back and a person will forever be limited – to some degree, by that upbringing.

In between the highly graphic tales of stripper life, including many back room sexual encounters with paying clients… “Beefcake Guy” also began telling his tales.

This guy was buff, tall, good looking and shy.  As he was ordering his food to go, the girl let me know she was interested in him, but he clearly wasn’t going to have any part of that nonsense, she she’d given up.

“Beefcake Guy” explained he was only ordering food to go home, because he’d “just left the gym” and had a black tie event to go to the next evening with his girlfriend.

I asked him how long he’d been with her, since he was already volunteering unsolicited information.  Beef said he’d been with her 3 months, and that (here it comes ladies….listen up) she’d already been telling him that she loved him.

I’d wanted to prove my previous studies to be right, so I asked him if he also loved her.  He just looked at me with his mouth hanging open, then looked down and said , “No.”

“I didn’t figure you did,” I replied. He asked me how I knew.  I explained to Beef, that most all men do not fall in love prior to the first 6 months. Period. He had been so disappointed in himself, because he’d wanted to love her but it just wasn’t there for him. Yet.

“But she’s a really nice person,” he explained.

Here’s what I can surmise.  Women jump in the sack, spend the night over and over, and bond.  Men, however, will let you jump in their sack, spend the night over and over, and eventually hope that feelings will follow. Actually, men will not fall any faster by you jumping in the sack. They will, however, pretend, as Beef was doing.

“So what do you do?  Just lie and tell her you love her back?” I asked.  His answer was along the lines of, “Yes.  She is a nice person. “

Beef showed me a photo of the 30 year old school teacher he was dating.  She was recently divorced, with a 3 year old child.  She was attractive and did look like a nice person.  Beef was 41, and had never been married.  He had a fabulous job as a medical supply rep and was seemingly intelligent.  His reasoning for his continual singledom was simple,  the women all move to fast, the relationship plays out, then he ends it due to lack of feelings.  He sort of had “Clooney Attachment Disorder” in a way.  He claimed he doesn’t cheat while with a woman. One at a time was his policy.  He just rides it out until he’s done and ends it.

He confirmed for me what I already knew, which was that women do not give men the time they need to love them back.  They are so pressured by your never ending existence, there’s no chance for him to see how he feels when you are gone. They need time to miss you.
Talking to him reminded me of a college girl that worked for me years ago.  She was beautiful and sweet.  However, she would meet a guy over the weekend, and be sleeping at his house and never going home within a few days, and her relationships never lasted more than a month.

This was an action packed hour of my life with emoticons all over the room.  I felt compelled to make these two people my friends and switch information with them both, but there was so much therapy packed into that one hour, I was emotionally drained.  I’d oozed compassion and understanding for both of them, in their very different circumstances. He was unhappy, she was hopeful, and I got to go back…well run back to the safety and security of my own life and realized I have it pretty great.

What I took away from this odd evening was this… give of yourself to others, let them talk and try to listen and care.  Everyone wants love and a good life. People want to feel love …yes, even hot bachelors that jump from woman to woman, it just takes them longer to ever get on board!
