MASTER BATHROOM RE-VAMP

master bathroom, decor, home, black paint

Let me begin by saying that I do not enjoy the act of painting. I do, however, enjoy having a completed, comfortable, and fun nest.  To get from A to B…painting must be done!

In this case, the house was complete except for the small crack den looking master bathroom that I hadn’t gotten around to yet.

I’d been putting it off this entire year, but my husband asked me to have it completed as a birthday present to him. He did help with the paint roller part, but the trim work was the part I was dreading!

So I put on my ugly “painter girl” shirt, which actually is an old shirt of his that he wore on our first date to church, and has paint splatters all over it now.  It is my painting uniform. We got it knocked out in our spare time.

I’d wanted to add some character to the small area, so I opted for metal decor candle sconces as well as a metal trim piece above the window instead of curtains.

I find the garden tub area to be so much more inviting and soothing with the darker color, which is a black paint named Francesca by Martha Stewart, which is also in the master bedroom, kitchen, and the fire place wall in the living room.

When adding things such as towels or art…I had decided to be thrifty and use what I already owned.  However, one trip to Kirkland’s for some additional pieces was all it took to complete the look.

For example, the crystal hurricane lamp, I already owned, but the silk floral arrangement for the tub area, I purchased. The crystal ball shown below and the metal wall piece I already had.

The decor towels are mismatched on purpose to try and create an undesigned, old world look. Using the old multi colored runner that I dug out of the back of a closet, also helped to add to the old world look.

So how much did the bathroom re vamp end up costing me? Just under $250, including paint and painting supplies!

It was my intent to focus on yard projects this summer, as well as a few other DIY type projects (like maybe hitting the gym again)but I am so glad to have this bathroom project complete! Happy Birthday, Ken…your private sanctuary is complete!

MOVIE NIGHTS: Safe Haven

SAFE HAVEN Movie, Josh Duhamel, Julianne Hough, blog, Luxor Living and Style

I only review and recommend movies I think are good.

We watch a lot of movies, and sometimes there is a hole where my Movie Night posts should be because I don’t want to be negative or promote films that have unnecessarily evil themes or pointless, shocking nudity.

My personal disclaimer being stated…let me move onward.

This movie was so sweet! This is the type of movie that makes you think it could possibly be a great idea to get on a Greyhound bus with nothing but a backpack full of your life savings and go start a new life somewhere else. (Preferably with Josh Duhamel.)

Safe Haven stars Julianne Hough (previously from Dancing With The Stars) and Josh Duhamel and is set in Southport, North Carolina.  It is picturesque, suspenseful and artistic…but if you love love…then there’s even that! There is passion, but without uncomfortable nakedness…this movie has class and is a perfect home date night movie!

It just came out in February of this year, and it is out on DVD now! The film is from the author ofThe Notebook and the director of Dear John.
See it before you die…just sayin.

ARE DENIM MINI SKIRTS EVEN IN?

YES…BECAUSE I SAY SO

Since it is now June, apartment locating is in full swing and I am busy!  People are finding themselves in a lurch because their houses are selling faster than they thought possible, so they are having to jump before having a finalized plan of where to jump to.

Because of this, and other obligations…I guess I’ve lost touch with what’s in and all I know is it’s hot!

Today, I was off, sort of, because I had traffic court (yes, again) so after court and early morning grocery shopping in a black suit, the temperature was in the 90’s so I couldn’t wait to throw on something cooler to live the rest of my day in.

This denim mini is so old but I figure if you think it’s currently acceptable to bring back high waist pants then I can bring in a stretchy, comfy denim skirt.

Since I am not tanning anymore, and am trying to embrace my paleness…I have no barrier from the sun at all and I can literally feel my skin turning pink and spots forming in the sun, so I will be using a hat quite often. (I need to do my research…but I am pretty sure this is not the same sun intensity we had even 20 years ago, due to the protective ozone breaking down.)

I saw an absolutely beautiful blogger girl on Pinterest yesterday, who was tanned and thin and fabulous, however in 20 years, she will most likely look like a cast mate from an episode of Survivor.

As for me, I will just deal with what I have to work with and what that means for this blog…is that everything is old with the exception of the new light weight, cut out shoulder, leopard print top from Forever21 for around $21.00  (Hey, I’m on a budget!)

A perfectly sleepy day comes along here and there.  I feel lately as though I have to fight for each one!

I got a lot done, working from home but we also planned to go to the movies at 6pm to beat the night time weekend movie rush.

When we went to the movies we realized that it had been a while since the last one that wasn’t seen from our sofa via Redbox, and wow time is our biggest commodity these days!

I found this new polka dot blouse at Forever 21  after building my “Style My Verde Bolsa inspiration board, shown below.

Sticking with black and white today, made it easy to use the bright green bag again, and the hat kept me from having to deal with a lot of hair on a hot day. I would prefer to have on some baggy boyfriend jeans, rather than black capri pants, but I’ve not been able to find some yet that I like!

STYLE MY VERDE BOLSA

VERDE BOLSA
I purchased the Michael Kors tote, shown above in “Palm.”  I’ve yet to bust it out and use it.  It was a hard decision to buy a green bag when I own absolutely nothing that is green…with the exception on one scarf.

My wardrobe could use some refreshing for summer, so the bag was a great idea, but I decided to use it as a foreign color pop, instead of rushing out to buy a lot of green clothing! (Ick!)

I also decided that I could use some baggy, boyfriend-type jeans, which is another thing on my current wish list which is turning out to be harder to find than I originally thought.

I love creating the fashion sets above, and then creating the outfits in reality, to see how it really works out! The next fashion post will more than likely include my new  Michael Kors verde bolsa…so check back!

SIX SHOTS: MAY 2013

SIX SHOTS

of the month

may two thousand and thirteen

Prada, Old Town Spring, blogger, photography

Like it or not…May is over, summer is here and the year is flying by.  I am struggling with trying to cram everything I want to in the course of each day.  Some days, I try to squeeze some time to enjoy an hour or two in Old Town Spring, as seen above in the Hola, Baby post…or below in the Bird House Crazy post.

In sticking with my Spring theme, the shot below was part of the Holes blog post from a different day.

I sort of mainly wanted to include the collection below, because it was from my first sponsored post from the BA STAR Cosmetics post!  Hopefully the first of many to come!

As mentioned before, my husband takes the pictures of me, and I take all the good pictures! This is the most challenging part of the blog to deal with, but he pushed me this month, really got into it and tried his best to fulfill his duty!  The blog is kind of turning into our personal hobby. The one below is from the Retro White post, which is his favorite post of the month, so it’s included below, because I always let him pick one favorite post of the month.

I did not have a lot of spare time for photography  this month, but last week I had this weird little frog that jumped towards me when I opened the back door, so I ran to get the camera… since I had a willing model.  She sat there in my face, staring at me while I had about 10 minutes to play with the different camera settings. What is it thinking? Does it have feelings of any kind? Is it bored with it’s life?  These are the things I wondered as I tried to hone my photography skills.  Maybe he was waiting for a kiss to turn him back into a fabulous Prince. Ugh, I didn’t pick up on that at the time!

Handbags, jewelry and good times are great….but absolutely nothing is better than getting close to nature. There is such beauty in the way it all works.

This month it’s on!  It is summer, so although Apartment Leasing has picked up tremendously, I have wonderful plans for my pet project here and I can’t wait to see what the month brings!
