BLACK SUMMER PART 2

BLACK SUMMER PART 2

I loved the Black Summer Inspiration board that I posted so much, I decided to walk the walk and coordinate an outfit with things I already owned, and simulate the board.

I recently saw the dress on a friend’s post on Instagram, which reminded me that I also had it tucked away somewhere.  When she stated that she also had owned it for years, and referred to it as a “staple” I couldn’t of agreed more!

The turquoise beads never get worn, but I thought they would be fun with the big earrings.

The lime green wallet and pink shoes add to the color pops.

I also opted to line the bottom of the eyes with the turquoise color in the Batik Sun palette from Estee Lauder.

BLACK SUMMER

Black Summer, Luxor Living and Style, polyvore, Mac Lip color, Heroine, Michael Kors bag, pink and black

It’s always been my personal thought, that just because the warm months of the year are upon us…it doesn’t have to mean that it’s time to whip out the bold, bright floral prints.

I’ve always felt that by using accessories as a crutch, you can make some of those black staples in your closet work during more months of the year.

I believe I came to the conclusion years ago once I realized that if you are shopping on a budget, floral fashions can often tend to look dated and cheap, so you have to be careful when choosing them.

With that in mind, I tried to build an inspiration board around solid black for summer, and jazzed it up with season appropriate accessories!  This occurred to me when I saw a friend in a black dress that I also own.  When she commented that it was a “staple” and also had it for years, I decided to do this post, as well as the upcoming photo post on “the dress!” (check back for the post!)

Black is my uniform.  Nothing looks better. Oxblood??? I am a rebel, I couldn’t follow.  So I am writing on what I really wear, think, and believe and after years of retail visual merchandising, marketing and management…sometimes I want to rebel against the establishment and keep my money in my pocket, and sometimes I choose to partake.  The richest people I know, are also the cheapest so it’s all about balance.

Fashion should be fun and strategic and the idea is to build a wardrobe over time. One that helps you to be the best you possible!

HOLA, BABY!

HOLA, BABY

glasses by Prada, shoes by Madden Girl, jacket from Forever 21

This is a place I’ve rediscovered in the past couple of years and it’s called Old Town Spring.

It’s so old time and Main Street styled, and I love it on pretty days.  There are cute restaurants and shopping spots.

Today was actually a quick appointment before a patio dinner, which included the dogs! When he pulled up in his car with the babies…I say, “Hola, baby!” Just like I always do.

Yet another cool front came through, so a jacket was needed, and this one is from Forever 21.  This jacket will be a forever piece because the stretchy poly blend will never die and the shape seems timeless to me.  Yes, peplums are in now, but this one is mild enough to drag around for years.

Everything else is old, including the black camisole top with cream colored lace.  The black tiered shorts are from last August and were purchased as a comfy vacation piece shown here.

I’m going to be doing more posts on my little time warp, which is Old Town Spring, because it’s so quaint and some of the shopping is so fun!

The very first time I was ever there, was one Sunday when I was a teenager with my mom.  I had very few, well hardly any friends…so mom was my friend.  She took me there for the annual Crawfish Festival which happens every April.

I remember what a beautiful day it happened to be and what a fun time we had.  I also remember a man with a soft drink in one hand and a giant turkey leg in the other.  He refused to let go of either item as he leaned forward and hurled… (by hurled…I mean “pea soup” style Exorcist movie)…yes hurled right in our pathway.

Ick.  I just have to tell everyone that part of the story as well, when reminiscing about my first Old Town Spring adventure. I’d never seen that before.

Huge public affairs with music and food and beer are great…but lazy days like this with less people around is more our scene.
